Our second anniversary is today. We are considering something in the Glen Ellyn area, maybe Pacific Blue? From blurbs on the internet, this restaurant recently changed names from Ciao Bella and concept, so I am just looking for info on it's quality of food and service. Is there anything else near there that would be good for an anniversary?

We went to Pacific Blue for our anniversary. The decor was simple and refreshing, yet it did not have the feel of being 'underdone'. The server had an excellent knowledge of the menu items and which fish was the freshest. He allowed me to sample 2 of the chardonnays prior to purchasing a glass. The wine list was extensive with many by the glass and half bottles.

We ordered the seafood empanandas as a starter. These were excellent, although perhaps a bit too heavy on what seemed to be crabcake mix in the filling versus other types of fish. The sauce was a nice, tart, acidic complement to the buttery flakiness of the shell.

The bread they served was the perfect blend of crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside - it was really quite yummy.

For our dinners, I got the Halibut with Rock Shrimp Polenta and Garlic Butter Sauce and my husband got the Ahi Tuna with Braised Onions and Sweet Soy Butter. The halibut was simply done, atop the polenta which was placed in the sauce. It was good and garnished well, but the sauce seemed to be missing any acidic quality to it, making the entire dish a little bland. The polenta was creamy and delicious, unlike any polenta I have ever had! It was so good...interestingly the grains of polenta were largish, which I have never experienced before, but it really worked here. My husband's entree was the better of the two. The tuna was perfectly rare (as requested), the onions were so tender and sweet, and the sauce was not only a very good match for the fish, but delicious as well.

Our server brought us a complimentary slice of the lemon cheesecake for our anniversary, and that was perfect - the whipped cream some of the best and creamiest ever.

The server did say that the menu has a few rotating/special items that very depending on the fish selection that week. He did also say that he wasn't thrilled with that week's selections compared to the other items on the permanent menu, so his candor was refreshing.

In conclusion, the dinner was very good. The price for the dinner totaled $60 before tax and tip, which is reasonable for a nice fish dinner out with a glass of wine and an appetizer. The server was far beyond my expectations in terms of knowledge. I would return to this restaurant again for a second try, but I would order something different. I think my husband would order the same thing.
