As there isn't a dedicated thread for Bridgeport Pasty, I'll just stick this in here. BP just won 3rd place in an international pasty competition in Cornwall, pretty neat. Details here.

    I want to know more.
    Where do they park?
    Is there a set schedule?
Is there a web presence where one could find listings of all the food trucks in Chicago?
    Are they reviewed anywhere uniformly?

There were 11 food trucks just on Ellis at the University of Chicago today, probably more like 15 including those in front of the Regenstein and over at the hospitals. La Adelita offered an excellent tinga torta, strong guacamole and pureed creamy green salsa, chips, and a scratch cucumber-lime agua fresca for $10.

My current ranking of options commonly in Hyde Park, most-excited-to-see at top:

Brown Bag Lunch Truck (Asian fusion meats)
    Bergstein's New York Deli
    La Adelita
    Don Rafa / Sabas Vega
    Beaver's Coffee and Donuts
    Wow Bao van

Downhill for me have been Schnitzel King and Haute Sausage. Not good on either of two visits was Bombay Wraps. Falafel Bros. is ascending. I laugh when I see Getta' Polpetta since I grew up with Southern Italian "pripatty" hamburgers and it's really odd to see them truckified.

The Institute for Justice has filed a lawsuit on behalf of three Chicago food truck owners. Whatever its merits, their video is a smile--

While the ordinance as it is presently written is a bit draconian and obviously biased toward the brick and mortar restaurants, if the net effect is that food trucks start coming to the neighborhoods that are under-served by decent restaurants instead of only grabbing the low hanging fruit of the downtown area, I'm all for it. Unfortunately, this has not yet happened.

I went to Fischman's for their Founder's tap takeover last night. There were 5 or 6 food trucks out there. I had the cuban sandwich from the Wagyu wagon and I have to say it was damn tasty. They put a great smoke flavor on their pork, it actually tasted very similar to pork when I smoke it at home in the WSM.

The people running this truck were very accomodating. They put together a meatless sandwich for a vegetarian friend that was with us.

Another friend had a pork sandwich from Lillie Q which he said was good. But I think I made the right choice with Wagyu. His sandwich was 10 bucks and came with a side of slaw. Mine came with a decent amount of good fries and was only 8 bucks. Mine just seemed to be the better value out of the 2. Not that anyone was complaining.

As for the beer, I mostly drank Founder's red rye. I've always liked this beer but I don't think I've ever had it on tap before. Particularly not this fresh. This tasted like a completely different beer than what I'm used to out of a bottle. This was really crisp with a nice hoppy finish that wasn't as dry on the back of your palette as the bottled stuff.

They tapped the KBS (Kentucky Bourbon Stout) around 7:30. I'd actually never had this beer before. The bourbon flavor is very forward and this is a thick tasting kind of beer. If I had a pint it would probably last me a good hour. They were serving it in smaller flight type of glasses and small snifters. Definitely one of the most tasty stouts out there I'd say. But, I just couldn't see drinking much of it in one sitting.

I also took advantage of Fischman's amazing carry-out beer selection. I grabbed 4 different bombers from Pipeworks that I haven't tried before. I've heard rave reviews of Pipeworks stuff but have only had their smoked porter so far.

Good night all around, will do again.

Tamale Spaceship is the only food truck I've tried in Chicago that I feel is worth a damn. The rest are overpriced and not nearly as good as they should be. Hopefully preparing food on the truck will improve quality and prices.

Wagyu was cooking on the truck and I felt like it was a very good deal for the amount of food I got. If I were to order that same meal in a bar I'd expect to pay 10-12 bucks. 8 bucks was a deal for this imo.

Jerk chicken makes regular rounds on several trucks in Hyde Park, but Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill was bringing the smoke and lines today with its on-truck grill and fryer, and I thought the product was very good. They may have listened to zoid, since the $7 box now includes the fries and a fritter, and a more generous portion of chicken thigh and breast.

I still haven't seen many live-cooking trucks on the South Side since the ordinance changed. Has anything particularly compelling popped up in the northern circuits?

Chicago's food truck zones are about to increase as Mayor Rahm Emanuel introduces a proposal today to the City Council calling for six more areas where mobile restaurants can operate.
