Wedron Office is a place I had heard about for a few years, kind of thought Wedron was further south, not 15 minutes away from me. From what I had heard: solid bar, solid fried chicken, etc.

En route we had to hit a historical landmark, A spot where Charles Lindberg crashed one of his US mail planes back in the day, coincidentally 85 years and one day after the fact.

Wedron Office is located on the west side of Wedron as you are leaving town. A lone Budweiser sign signifies it is coming up:

    Image

An a-typical roadhouse looking spot, small bar area as you walk through the front door, dining room off to the left.

The bartender was a sassy young lady who made our visit alot of fun, beer was cold, Jim Beam on the rail.. good times. Fried chicken was in the cards for me for a light lunch. 1/4 light served with twice baked potato & salad bar was about $8.50. Salad bar while basic was one of the better ones in the area. Better lettuce mix than most and some fresh veggies as well as various salads. A decent cream of broccoli soup was the nights choice. Fried chicken cooked to order, its the only way to go, if you are ordering fried chicken and it comes to your table in less than 25-30 minutes you should move on. Chicken was good, perfectly fried, light crust. I prefer a beer battered chicken, but this one was pretty good, more along the lines of Verruchi's fried chickens crust. Overall very good.

Also spied on the meny, house tenderloin, blue gill, steaks, burgers, pork chops, etc.

    salad bar:

Heading back here for sure, the blue gill is calling me.

I googled them and found out they had a few nice reviews . One did mention that reservations were recommended which is pretty amazing for a small town country bar!The food must be really good!

Based from what I saw this past Saturday a reservation is recommended after 5:00 or so. We walked in @ 4:30, place was pretty empty, by the time we left it was packed:

The visit the previous Saturday had not left my mind all week. Something about Wedron Office resonated with me. Was it the cold beer, the roadhouse feel, the food, not sure.

Took the family for dinner after a few hours @ the Plano Oktoberfest. Jim Beam & High Life to start for me video games for Shay. Opted for some Office wings, 10 wings for $5.95..... Breaded or plain, with a choice of sauces. No breading and no sauce for us, just a bottle of tobasco on the side for me. Some great wings, Crisp skin, juicy meat.

    Image

Salad bar was the same as last week, some nice side salads, and a habdfull toppings(onion, cucumber, cheese, egg, bacon, etc.) for a basic green salad, it is what it is and I like it. Soup was a nice cream of cauliflower soup. Really rich and creamy. Fried chicken was the item of choice, I am enjoying the different breading/batter styles of different places. Wedron Office is unique so far. A really nice breading, not like Verruchis(italaian breading). And definitely different that the batter chicken around. Wedron Office chicken is good, minimalist, I could be wrong but I detect no brining or marinating, tastes like they just take the chicken , bread it, and toss it in the fryer. It works.

    1/2 lite:

    Image

Kind of hoping to go back this week for supper or some drinks & wings..

Very cool find, JimTBG. I love little off-road places like this, with what sounds like a focused menu and a kitchen that does very well with the basics. Did you ask if the chicken was free-range, hormone free? ( :D )

I decided this past weekend that Wedron Office is the best restaurant that is closest to my home. Shaving 10 minutes off the drive time to the place that previously held that honor Cajun Connection.

Fried chicken is done really well here, and one of the bigger birds around... seeing a difference in the breading/batter between visits.

Did the early bird 10 oz. hand cut NY strip this last time, $10 for the steak, potato and salad bar. Steak was a perfect rare, and tasty. I had the choice of a ribeye or NY strip.

Wedron Office might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I like it, I like it alot.

    yes my friend,

perhaps the best steak deal, taste to value that I have encountered.

I believe the early bird special runs til 5:30: 10 oz. ribeye or NY strip, 1/4 dark fried chicken, or some fried fish(cod), choice of potato, and the soup and salad bar. Also on the menu Saturday was Prime rib(of course), and grouper.

Shay's 5th birthday yesterday, Chuck-e-Cheese was the lunch choice(who can blame her), but good chicken wings was what she wanted for dinner,. Easy call with 2 of the better wing places I have found in Chicagoland close by. Of course Wedron Office won out over Kendall Pub.

This day found the Wedron Office offering a $2 a.y.c.e. chili bar as well as $.75 drafts for the game. That and a dozen wings for $5 were the specials... Might have to spend a Sunday's worth of NFL games here in the future for a cheap afternoon.

Did up the wings, a NY strip, a 1/2 fried chicken(different breading again), some chili and the salad bar for a family feast. The above with 2 shots of Beam, and a handfull of drafts came to about $40. Nice Sunday supper with the family.

Dang. I had forgotten about this place. We were in Newark yesterday for an appraisal fair at the Old Barn Museum and wound up going to Yorkville for lunch. The Museum is pretty interesting and started as a personal collection of arrowheads and stone tools found on the property. Next Sunday is it's last day open for this season.

Also heard some bad news regarding one of the owners of Wedron Office passing away, I was informed of that by LTH'r L.T.E.O.. Hoping they continue with what they have been doing. Some menu pics:

This past Saturday's view from my seat at the bar.

1/2 light, some mashed and the High Life...

not sure why places like Wedron Office, Cherry Supper CLub, John's, Mark O's, Monari's, etc. are hard to find outside of the Valley.

edit: when i was in on Friday(1/13 for a couple rounds and a steak I saw Wedron Office will be closed from around the 23rd of January through the 2nd of February for remodeling.

sorry no pics, took the night off.

Went to the Office last night and was enjoyed my visit throughly. I usually stick with the fried chicken or a steak, but went with their pork tenderloin, pounded out in house. Nice version, not over the top in size, still had to cut about half of it away to allow for it to be eaten as a sandwich.

Finds on the salad bar were the usually great house made potato salad, and a nice chicken noodle soup with thick, plump noodles.

Fried chicken others had was great as always, I am convinced they do the largest bird of any place out here.

I am a very, very, infrequent visitor to Road Food, but got tipped off by a friend that one of the cats from there has been hitting a couple of the LaSalle & Bureau County chicken spots (Wedron Office, Verucchis & Smitty's), love seeing deserving spots get some attention.

as for Wedron Office, went on Friday night and had another good meal. Cream of broccoli and cauliflower soup, potato salad, and some fried bird. These guys sit at 3rd as far as my favorite fried chicken out here.

This is my first reply, although I recently signed up, I've been a lurker for some time.

This was our 2nd choice this past Saturday as Cajun Connection by 5pm was already pushing 75 minute wait.

My son and I enjoying trying new places and he likes chicken so after being disappointed not having Cajun, off we went here. Now, I'm not nearly comfortable taking pictures but I will say this place was well worth the drive. We both ordered 1/2 white dinners which came with the salad bar, choice of potato. As mentioned before, there was nothing available tablewise until 7:30 so the host offer us 2 stools at the bar. Now, my son being 16 loved the fact he was sitting with his dad.

The salad bar was nothing special, although I will say the bread they were serving was not what I was expecting. Where ever they source their bread, it had a nice buttery taste, soft and fresh. If there's one thing I can't stand is hard bread. This wasn't a french or italian loaf, so I'll have to ask next time we go back.

As for the Chicken, fried but not overly greasy. The huge breast I thought would be a tad dryer but to my surprise, wasn't. There was enough for leftovers, so I can say as lunch the next day, it was just as good eaten cold.

We both ordered fries and this was the low point. They were soggy and almost had an undercooked taste to them.I had a few and just couldn't push myself to have them. Plus the fact, they place the chicken on top of the fries which didn't sit to well for presentation. Now, yes this is a locals place and perhaps this isn't important to them, but a side plate given the amount of bird would have been nice.

Outside of the fries, both my son and I agreed we'll be heading back.
It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice......that's what people will remember.

    glad you hit Wedron Office,

I agree the salad bar is basic,(simple greens), but I am a sucker for their potato salad, which they say is made there. the chicken is the star for sure.

Finally had the blue gill last night and I really enjoyed it. $13 for a heaping portion of beer battered filets. Sure I would have preferred a lighter coating, but the fish hit the spot last night.

This was the first place I took some Australian guests we have in town and they enjoyed themselves and the food. They did mention the large portions.

Hits for them: the fried chicken - especially the crispy crust and skin., the blue gill, the nights soup: ham and bean, and the potato salad.

Looking forward to taking them to Stefanich, Alpine, Johnnies, Cemitas Puebla, Purple Pig and Great Seas.. +

Yeah, but I was coming back from being on Route 66 for 5 days. The last thing we wanted to do was drive further from home at that point. And pizza is higher priority than chicken (in the Chicago area and for me).
