Very sad - was there in October and then again in December and had excellent meals both times. I hope someone has more intel including, where if anywhere the owners/chefs go next.

Am I correct that the only remaining live coal BBQ in Chicago is now San Soo Gap San? Sad indeed.

Wha? Woo Chon, Chicago Kalbi, San Soo Gab San, Boo-il, Song-do. I can't believe all of them have switched from coal recently. Sad indeed if that is true. Edit: I see you said SSGS, but no, it's not the last.

I though Solga (5828 N Lincoln Ave) also had live coals but I could be wrong about that.

I noticed it was dark on Saturday, and the sign up was a construction work order rather than something else, so this sounds about right. Next thing I came to was Crystal Korean, on which I checked LTH reports and declined. Ended up at Crosby's Kitchen; not bad.

I don't think any of the old coal places will switch, but I'm not aware of any new coal places. Maybe the City won't allow it. Another reason to patronize these gems. RIP Kang Nam.

By the way, let me offer some love to Chicago Kalbi: maybe not the "best" of anything, but solid all around and you've got to love the quirky baseball theme and Japanese bent of the place. It does seem to get its fair share of ex pat businessmen in the private rooms, which I hope will keep it open for years to come.

While not Chicago proper, near NW burb restaurant New Seoul in Des Plaines still has live coals: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=19075
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.
