So, it turns out that we have a BBQ to go to on May 26th, so as long as it's ok with everyone, we will do the "may" exchange on Sunday, June 2. I will be hosting at my apartment in Logan Square. Don't worry, there's plenty of street parking right outside. Sue, I'm sorry you won't be able to make it, but, pairs4life, I hope to see you! And, as always, new people are always welcome! I can fit up to 12 people, including myself and Kevin.

As usual, make a dessert and bring it to share. You need only make one batch of a recipe, so that everyone can take just a piece or two of everything to try and to take home. A light meal will be served. Not sure what yet, but I will post when I decide. Bring containers to take home extra to share and/or eat later.

Hope to see everyone in June! :D

    Attendees:

Pie Lady - some type of cake
Ms. Ingie - something with rhubarb
    Toria
    justjoan

    Hi,

Either date works for me. I plan to bring a strawberry dessert.

    LauraS,

A baby! A baby? Pics please. Yes you can PM me if you like.

I'm gone in May, but would love to see you so if you do it in June I will sign up.

I also have a biscuit cutter for justjoan.

And for those who are wondering, I have not had cookie, cake, candy, ice cream, or pie yet. The 2 year anniversary is May 11th. I will make it to that date & then decide.

I've definitely been making desserts & not eating them the last couple of years.

    Cheers!

    Pie Lady,

That's actually how we told my parents that we are expecting. We put a hamburger bun in the oven, invited them over, and told them I was baking something. We showed them the oven... no clue. It took a minute or two for them to get it :)

Sign me up. I'm bringing another cake. I can't remember the name, but the picture is neato and comes from the Pillsbury Best of the Bake Off of 1959.

I'm inclined to think yes, but do the flavors of coffee and fig go together? My cake has an apricot filling with coffee frosting, but I have a jar of fig jam, so I thought of using that instead. However, I never had the two together, so I don't want to make a grievous error. Thoughts?

why not taste a spoonful of fig jam next time you have a cup of coffee? i think fig jam is more about the sweetness than anything else. so i'd be inclined to think it'd work.

Not sure yet what I will be making for dessert, but hopefully something with fruit from the farmers market. For dinner, I'm thinking a couple of different salad-y things: curried couscous with or without chicken and a pasta salad with black beans and veggies.
Also, if you had said earlier that June 2 works for you (during the "which day?" discussion), can you officially RSVP, too, once you know if you plan to come? Thanks!

Laura, would you mind sending me your address early? I just decided to take a class that day and I wonder if I should make arrangements to bring the cake with me or go home to pick it up first.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I will bring Eton Mess, named after an English boarding school, strawberries, whipped cream and meringue served at an annual cricket match.

I made it over the weekend, I am not quite sure I have the technique right.

I will bring my blender to assemble the mess at the event, if that's ok.

    Laura-
Would it be okay if I brought my cake around 1:30? I have decided to take a class that day on Belmont & Elston at 2pm, which I think is near you. If you don't have a place for it, that's okay...my teacher has a fridge and I can probably bribe her with cookies.

    Thanks

I had a delightful time at your house. The dinner was lovely. I especially enjoyed the chicken curry. And, as usual, very good desserts. I am looking forward to more sampling.
