Anybody know of ANY casual-dress type place in the west loop (N. of Taylor, S. of Grand, E. of Ashland, W. of Canal) that serves ice cream? I know Mario's, but thats not really ice cream. And i'm sure there's ice cream served at 160blue and La Sardine and Blackbird, etc, but thats not really the point of those places. Ever since Chicago Chocolate company on Randolph closed, I have been out of luck. I've tried the search and Chicago Chocolate is all I can find here.

I know there is a coldstone on halsted, but its a little too far to walk and I don't really want to wait around for the bus. And I could get some at Dominicks and serve myself, but thats not really the point of "Eating Out in Chicagoland" Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

D'Agastinos on Ogden and Milwaukee-ish scoops Homers Ice Cream. Not quite the W. Loop but a very good option.

Isn't there a Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin Donuts on Washington a block or two east of Morgan? Also, the Morgan St. Cafe on Morgan and Monroe (or maybe Madison) used to serve gelato.

    Jerry's Sandwiches (pdf menu)
and Ina's (cited at end of Sun-Times article) offer
frozen custard from LTHForum GNR, Scooter's, year-round.

One should always call ahead to check on flavor availability before going.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. I think Ina's or Baskin Robbins will be the winner here, mainly due to hours of operation. I missed entering part of the requirement, that it be open after dinner. Jerry's seems to close at 4-5 PM every day. I know the web site at Jerry's says 8 PM, but I walk by it at least twice a week and have never seen it open after work, let alone after dinner. Ina's is open until 9 PM Tu-Sa (although it says kitchen closes at 5...hopefully that does not have any effect on ice cream) and BR is open until 9 every day. Going directly to Scooters sounds intriguing, but way too far away for an after dinner walk. I'll have to do that on a weekend when I have time for the CTA.

Looks like there is an ice cream shack opening up on Madison just east of Aberdeen! No info on the name, but I saw the building permit on the building, and I can see the cooler inside. I also found this on craigslist:

Hopefully someone is not playing an elaborate hoax on me.

I saw that also. Don't forget that Mariano's has gelato and a new yogurt place is opening on Halsted.
