I just got thru reading the "Q" section of the Sunday Trib and there was an article regarding Alan Richman's review of a place at 175 W Jackson in the city called Poag Mahone's. It made GQ top list of burgers...can anyone shed some light on this place?

commodity broker spot. nice place. never had the burger, tho. betcha pigmon has tho! i like heaven on seven's burger, but only at the loop location=111 n. wabash on 7th floor. also, when weather cools down in fall/winter, Bombacigno's J&C restaurant at about 555 w van buren has a very good burger. Also, if you ever go to the goose island on clyborn, it has a great burger--again, only at that locale, however.

Miller's Pub has a decent, hefty burger and they cook it to your specifications. Pillowy steak fries, too.

I have been to Poag Mahone's, but just once for beers. Don't know about the burger...but it does feel like a meat-market.

It's where I'm gonna be when I finally dump trixie's sorry ass.

When I read the GQ article on best burgers (maybe 1-2 years ago)
the author wrote of (one spelling or another) Poag Mahone's
on Lawrence Avenue, North side of street, immediately East of the
Kennedy Expressway. POI Poag Mahome (sic) translates from
Gaelic to "kiss my ass". Since this joint has never been mentioned
in this or the other board I figured the author found it because:
    1) Stuck in Rush Hour traffic, observed it from
    Kennedy and needed a beer.
    2) Was told to go to the bar East of the Kennedy
on Lawrence cause they have good 1/2# burgers. Jefferson
Park Pump? couple blocks East, SS of street or Brick & Beam
Maybe a mile East, NS street (both fine cheap bar burgers).
    3) He's fraternity brother, brother-in-law, whatever
    with the owners.
    4) He actually knows more about Chicago hambugers
than any of our critics or we do and that's why he writes for
    GQ.
I like #1 best, although I have never tried the Lawrence Poag
    Mahone's (sic) burger.

One of my coworkers just received a mailer from Poag Mahone's, with a Buy 1 Burger Get 1 Free coupon. Valid only after lunch hours, so I'm not sure when I'll get to try it, but will post when I do.

    The mailer proudly states:

"Winner! Top 10 Burgers in Chicago - Chicago Citysearch 2005 Online Reader's Poll"

"One of 'America's Top 20 Burgers!' - GQ Magazine, July 2005"

    This is encouraging:
