Church supper, raspberry picking & dessert exchange, July 13

The Kingston United Methodist Church monthly supper will be July 13. Seating times are 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. We will aim for 5 p.m.

Held usually on the first Saturday of the month at the church, 121 W. First St., the suppers include dessert of pie. Donations are $9 for adults and $4 for children.

This month, the meat will be roast beef (see Tyrus comments on this style of roast beef dinner), here is a picture of last year's meal:

After supper, we will congregate at razbry's U-Pick Raspberry farm to enjoy the setting, perhaps pick some raspberries and exchange desserts. Since people may be filled from their dinner and pie, please have desserts divided and packaged for the trip home.

I've finally gotten around to see if Cathy set this up. Great job Cathy! I've been out slaying weeds in the berry fields. My website (UPBERRIES.com) still says I'm closed, but I've been open for about a week now to facebook friends of You Pick Berries. I give FB friends a head start because it is a "soft" entry into the season. The berry volume starts out low, but builds as the summer progresses. I supply all picking containers and equipment. The website has a lot of information on it. Just to let you know, the dinner at the Kingston Church starts at 5 PM sharp. I recommend getting there at least 1/2 hr early. Seating is not guaranteed, it is a small church basement, and a very popular dinner event. Besides, if you get there early you get first dibs on the kind of pie you want for dessert! I'm looking forward to seeing you all, showing you my farm, and hosting this event (thanks to Cathy). See you soon!

Jeffs, the only event I usually make it to is the LTH picnic (wouldn't miss it) and the dessert exchange (once). Come on out, it's fun.

I'm back in town and will be there for sure. Don't know yet what I'll be making.

It appears my Mom is coming for the dinner, though not for the exchange.

I was just visiting my sister in NJ who bought a 10-pound box of dates, because the price was real good. She was unaware these good prices were due to Ramadan. I have quite a bit of these dates in-house, I will likely make a date nut bread I normally make for the holidays. I may change my mind, though that is the plan for this moment.

HI,

She is there for the full ride. I meant she won't bring a dessert to exchange. I cannot recall the last time she made a dessert. She likes to eat them, not necessary create them.

I am still making cake, but it will have nary a filling or frosting so it will survive a long trip without spoilage. Also, I believe all three go well with raspberries.

Can anyone tell me about the prospects for being in air conditioning? I am game but hate the heat so prolly will not go unless its air conditioned.

The church is air conditioned. My house is air conditioned. The berry patch isn't.

On your way out, notice the wild tiger lilies that are now filling roadside ditches. I think they are beautiful.

I am mulling what I am bringing. I know I will not be in much of a mood to eat dessert after seeing all the food and pies. So don't be offended if I don't eat much dessert. I won't bring what I originally was going to bring and will opt for something more simple that people can take home with them.

August might be a good time for me to host the next dessert exchange. I have a new air conditioner and the yard is nice. I promise I will not have anything outdoors if its too hot.

Don't worry! In the original post, it suggests that we all pack up our desserts to go because people will probably be stuffed.
