A new outdoor market, Devon Community Market, will be held on the first Sunday of the month from July through October, beginning this Sunday, July 7, from 10 am to 2 pm. Location is the parking lot at Republic Bank, 2727 W. Devon. Farmers and other vendors are supposed to be there.

    Sundays, July 7, August 4, September 1, October 6
    10 am - 2 pm

    The market promises:
      Farmstands
      Fresh juices
      Baked goods
      Ethnic novelties

I plan to check it out and report back since it's only a few blocks from home.

As interested in the "ethnic novelties" as I'm sure we all are, I'm sure most of us assumed that since it's Devon there would also be food (hopefully street food!) available. According to the first link when I googled it, food will likely be the predominant sale item. http://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20130425 ... ity-market. Does anyone else know, are any other neighborhoods other than Devon and Argyle included in this new push from the city?

The original press release for the Argyle market mentioned one in Logan Square as well.

Cabbagehead and I walked over yesterday to check out the new market. It's starting small (maybe a dozen booths), but it has a few good vendors. There were only a couple of produce booths, but there were fruit drinks being made and one Indian food stand doing some vegetable cooking. C&D Meats was there and doing good business, including from us. Apparently, a at least one farmer's truck broke down and another farmer also didn't show. It also was darn hot on a brand-new, very black parking lot

I enjoyed talking to, and being upsold by, Lou, of Lou's Old Fashioned Pickles. Lou returned to his family's farm in DeKalb to start a second career growing and pickling. His sweet garlic pickles sound weird but are tasty.

I am very glad to have a market in walking distance. The Devon market needs to grow, but I think it might become a real resource in time. At this point, I don't think it's worth coming any distance for, but if you're in the neighborhood, it's a nice stop.

Market is on again this Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm, 2720 W. Devon Avenue. With luck it won't be as hot as the July market was and more vendors will be there as well.
