Without question, ours is 'Laceys Almond and Dark Chocolate'. These are Almond wafer top and bottom with a dark chocolate middle. You can get them at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods ( thankfully you can no longer get them at Sunset ).

    http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... AQ&dur=519

All the sales people at our local Trader Joe's know about Laceys and often comment when bringing them for check out. I have had the situation at Trader Joe's where I could not find them and asked, and they called up to the desk who called back they were out. It then reverberated through the store 'We are out of Laceys - Oh No'.

If you haven't tried them - you must do so.

For a long time it was Pepperidge Farm Bordeaux, then it was their Cappucino (no longer made?). Most of Trader Joe's cookies are really quite wonderful, I'm liking their Chocolate Hazelnut Shortbread lately. I think the best ever EVER was one I picked up at European Imports' warehouse sale a few years ago - Shortbread with Chocolate and Orange. And of course there's always Biscoff/Speculoos.

I think I just like cookies.

As pedestrian and uncool as this is going to sound, I have always been a sucker for Famous Amos chocolate chip cookies. A box of them rarely lasts 24 hours in my house before being totally devoured.

I almost never buy store bought cookies - easily less than once a year and probably a lot less than that . . . but I am a total sucker for Lazzaroni Amaretti di Saronno cookies and I'll occasionally buy them. Here's what I'm referring to.

Leek - What a walk down memory lane! Pepperidge Farm Cappuccino Cookies -- oh, wow. I'd love when the creme (cream?) in the middle was slightly melty. (I also had an addiction to their Geneva cookies, and of course, mint milanos). I actually agree with most of your cookie recommendations. If you haven't already, do try Trader Joe's old-fashioned cinnamon graham crackers. They're thicker than a regular graham and they really put the Nabisco ones to shame. Oh -- and Matt's Chocolate Chip Cookies are pretty darn good, or at least they used to be--- haven't had them in years.

There are a fair number of delightful options out there. And I'm sure if I ever found them again, I'd still love Pepperidge Farm's Bordeaux. However, current favorites are Duchy Originals Stem Ginger Shortbread cookies. Mighty rich and mighty tasty.

Actually, Anna's cookies are lovely, too -- perfect with tea in the afternoon. Not as decadent as the Duchy Originals. Favorite flavor is Anna's Lemon Flavored Thins.

I really like Matt's REAL Chocolate Chip Cookies... Although they do not taste that good straight from the bag (more like undercooked cookie dough), but if you put a couple cookies in the microwave for 20 or so seconds the choclate is semi melted and give the cookies an awesome taste. The key is the microwaving the cookies for 20 so seconds!

    Agree, yes!

I am a major chocolate chip cookie snob, and very few off the shelf/boxed pass muster. I like the Trader Joe's frozen cookie dough, when I don't have the time or inclination to make a batch from scratch. Hm. Maybe I should freeze some of my own...

It would probably be easier to list my least favorites.
Just about everything in the paper bag Pepperidge Farm line, but mostly mint and raspberry Milanos.
I could eat every single one of Entenmann's mini chocolate chip cookies in one sitting and not regret it. Chips Ahoy too, the soft ones, but that might take two days. Come to think of it, I could probably eat an entire box of Pirouette-type cookies myself too.
In Polish stores, you can buy small packages of 6 or so chocolate-covered soft gingerbread, which would be one of the things I would demand when I'm on death row.
I have a fondness for Archway's red and green sugar-covered butter cookies that you get at Christmas, and those horrible hard frosted oatmeal cookies. I probably will never buy either again, but I have nice memories from my childhood.
Now that I think about it, my favorite cookies are mostly defunct. My favorites were Heinemann's dark chocolate chip cookies. They came about 18 to a box and were crispy and crumbly. And chocolate crowns, the dry chocolate cookie topped with a giant marshmallow with a hole in the center, dipped in chocolate, and when you bit into them, there was a little hint of raspberry jam. Now I only see the ones without the jam. There was this awesome cookie that I used to get everywhere, and they all but disappeared. It was a sandwich of two soft coconut cookies with two coconut-covered marshmallows in the center, one on each end, and the middle third was spread with raspberry jam. They were called Hippodromes, I think. The last place we saw them were at Logli's in Rockford and they were called something else, and that was years ago. Back when Jewel had President's Choice, there were two cookies that I adored; one was a butter cookie that was huge and shaped like a shell, dipped halfway in dark chocolate. It had an odd taste and sandy texture that I dug. The other was butter cookie sandwich, with a hole in the center. Inside was some creamy filling that tasted like butter, topped with a sticky raspberry or lemon jam-like substance, sprinkled with coarse sugar. The lemon was really tart and refreshing.

    I remember those fondly.

Our family really enjoys the Dominick's bakery Susan cookies, which are shortbreads topped with a big dollop of chocolate. Two dozen of those disappear pretty fast at my house.

I just had these the other day. If you're not careful, the chocolate bits stick to each other and you can't pry them apart without damaging the cookies. Other than that, they're fantastic.

I forgot to give a shout out to orange Milanos too. And just yesterday at H-Mart I saw another Pepperidge Farm cookie: Carrot Cake. If I wasn't making carrot cake later this week, I would have tried them.

I forgot lemon knots. Originally from the ill-fated Judy's in Evanston, now pretty much everywhere. Love lemon knots. Even though they aren't knotted.

    Hi,

When I was a kid, I liked Fudge Town.

I'm going to have to echo the love for Matt's. Of all the supermarket cookies, Matt's entire line is by far my favorite.

Orange Milanos are another favorite; I could eat those all day.

Do Trader Joe's chocolate-covered peanut butter pretzels count as cookies? Because those are delicious.

Dancing Deer cookies (and brownies) are pretty damn good, especially the cranberry-orange chocolate chip.

At the other end of the spectrum, as an unsophisticated youngster, whenever I was home sick from school my treat was Salerno chocolate chip cookies and homemade lemonade (sometimes dunked).

    No, I just ate them.

Oreo's was a different story. Took them apart and ate them in some special order I don't quite recall.

I second this. My favorite store-bought cookie of all time, however, has not been sold for many years ... the Archway Cherry Chip Nougat. Now that was an addictive (and preternaturally pink) little cookie.

Aside from the boutique-y cookies such as Annas, Walkers shortbread and the like, the regular grocery store cookies I like are Lorna Doones, fig bars, chocolate covered grahams, and Nonnis biscotti. Okay the latter are not as good as home made but they will do in a pinch. I also like a few of the plain Pepperidge farms like chessmen. I do not care for Milanos.

I'd probably cast my vote for some of the large size Pepperidge Farm chocolate chip cookies, like the milk chocolate macadamia nut, or the chocolate and pecan. Also a fan of the PF Lido cookies, which I think have a better cookie to chocolate ratio than Milanos, which I'm not crazy about. Also not a fan of soft baked cookies. I like something with a crunch.

I grew up with the blessing/curse of having a father whom was one of Archway's original distributors in Illinois! Forty-five years with the company, and me, always popular with the neighborhood kids, with a garage "warehouse" full of the best of Archway!

He's long gone from the route, deep into his Alzheimers, and still to this day I can't really think of another store bought cookie as "good".

Count my current fav their little Shortbreads. I've gone through my "Windmill" stage, and growing up there was little finer than a nice box of Chocolate Chip Icebox sitting on a hot dashboard warming up oven fresh.

I'll go to my own grave still remembering the smell of the "cookie factory" in Wenona IL! Many Saturday afternoons were interrupted with a quick trip in and we always managed to find our way to the end of the line where the "extras" deposited into a bin, ready for us to grab one, or...six for our sampling pleasure.
