Fox & Obel apparently re-opened at noon Thursday, according to an e-mail to F&O Friends

F&O isn't what it used to be. But it was great. It still hits some high notes. I, for one, hope they survive and thrive.

    Good luck, F&O

A burger/gyro grill, Blaze-N- Grill, has opened at the corner of Milwaukee and Devon on Tuesday, kittycorner to Superdawg. We stopped for lunch on Wednesday and the burgers were very nice, so we had dinner from them tonight. (too hot to cook). I had the gyro platter with a very large portion of meat and 2 sides, Dad had the Polish sausage. They were crazy busy tonight.

Other menu items are beefs, Philly cheese steaks, grilled ribeyes, and chicken sammys and platters.

Website is Blazengrill.com is not up yet but should be soon they tell us.

New bakery in Wheeling, Hot Breads. Just south of Hintz on 83 in the strip mall on the east side of the street. I did an online search but I couldn't come up with anything.

Drove past Myron and Phil's this weekend and saw boarded up windows. According to their website, there was a fire in May and they're closed for remodeling. Hope they open soon - it was our go-to "nice" steakhouse for many reasons: close to home, great service, free valet parking, well-made martinis... *sigh*.

It was discussed here when it happened. The fire occurred the same night Myron (Friedman) died.

Looks like a new deli / sandwich shop is coming to East Dundee, IL called In The Neighborhood Meet Market. Based on the article here, it looks like August 12 is the opening day. I saw this while parking here to ride the nearby bike trail. Interesting side story on how Tom Roeser the president of nearby OTTO Engineering is working hard to revitalize this area. I ride my bike along the nearby Fox River bike trail and always hoped that the store fronts along N. River Street in East Dundee would get some help. It has great potential.

Charhouse Grill at 6004 Oakton, Skokie is gone. The sign says "CLOSED NEW MANAGEMENT"; I don't know if this means they are closed because someone new took them over or they will be reopening under new management, but for now you'll have to get your char somewhere else.

Bahn Mi & Co. just opened on Van Buren, next to Benjyehuda (near Franklin). Also, the former Pockets on Franklin has a sign stating Pierogi Heaven will be going into that space. So far, windows are papered over and I can't tell when it will be opening.

This is apparently a new branch of the Hoffman Estates Hot Breads - which is an Indian-bakery (originally from Chennai, India, IIRC). They have a few "normal" bakery things... but also have Indian chaats, snacks (idli, dosai etc), spicy beef "puffs" and so on. The Hoffman Estates location, at least, is Hyderabadi-owned - and also serves a fine Hyderabadi style haleem and biryani etc - I dont know if Wheeling will do the same.

From the ashes of West Town Tavern rises . . . Chicago Taco?! "A fun, neighborhood joint serving awesome tacos, craft cocktails, beer and wine. Pop in and grab a bag of tacos to go or order at the counter and find a spot at a table inside or outside! Full bar of course! OPENS FRIDAY JULY 26 AT 5:00." Still owned and operated by Susan and Drew Goss, apparently. Quite a shifting of gears.

As I stopped at Crisp the other day I noticed that Kluck-U chicken across the street has been replaced by Pompeii Xpress. Note the extra "i" in the name which is confirmed by the pictures on the Yelp page. The lone review mentions the Struzone instead of the Strudels that Pompei serves. Probably not related but no other web links to confirm.

FYI for those interested - call well ahead. I stopped in yesterday for what I thought would be lunch, but found out that for most of the items, you need to call ahead. They have seating, but they only had two items on the menu that were available (anything else would take 45 minutes to prepare), leading me to believe they're prepared mostly for take-out and delivery for those not in a hurry. I recall them saying that around dinner time on weekdays, there would be four items readily available.

It really could be a pun on that, given how fond some of our local restaurateurs are for punny names.

Takoz (Ta Koz), a fine small taqueria in Tri-Taylor, has now re-opened for business after a hiatus of a couple weeks. The problem had nothing to do with health issues or food -- it was a bureaucratic matter that was not the fault of the current owners of Takoz.

If you are in the area and need a quick weekday lunch, I recommend Takoz. We just had lunch from there and it was excellent. They do an especially fine job with chicken.
