We stopped by Independent Wine and Spirits to pick up a half case of wine today. The proprietor, Scott Crestodina, used to work at Fine Wine Brokers in Lincoln Square and has been a great source of wine recommendations over the years. We were very sad when he left FWB about 6 months and subsequently thrilled to find out he'd opened his own shop in Edgewater. The shop opened two days ago and due to an overwhelming response, the shelves/crates were a little bare on our visit today. They are planning to increase their supply with the next order. We still managed to fine a half-dozen worthy bottles and Scott agreed to track down another wine we've been looking for since our trip to Puglia. I'm not a fan of scotch but most of one wall's shelves are devoted to small batch whiskey so that might be a draw to others on this site. Scott is a great source of information and really knows his stuff when it comes to wine, and I'm sure whiskey as well. They plan to have free tasting every Friday evening from 4 to 7--I'll report back after checking that out in the near future.

They are located very close to my home, and I walk past there twice a day to the train. Their beer, wine, and liquor selection has almost no overlap with next door Dominick's, so hopefully they will do well. Coming up in the near future: a beer cooler (mostly bombers, less six-packs) and an expanded whiskey section.
