I agree, and if you order a two piece version they will give two of the larger pieces. Two piece white meat gets you two plump chicken breasts. Wish I knew a Chicago place that did broasted chicken this great.

On a business trip, I stopped in Kenosha for the night and tried the Brat Stop. Gotta say I was underwhelmed both by the service (I waited five minutes to be seated at a table while several servers walked by me and didn't even ask if they could help) and by the brat special plate I had. The wurst itself was tasty, but dry and overcooked. The kraut served with it was a pitifully small portion to be called a side dish, IMO, as it barely covered the brat on the bun. Fries were orange in color and tasted good but I don't believe they were sweet potato fries - at least I didn't order sweet potato fries. I didn't go the Merkt's fries route due to a large luncheon that day. I liked the venue - it looks like it could be a hoppin' place on a Friday or Saturday night.

Next time I'll try the broasted chicken!

as mentioned numerous times on this thread, you have to sit at the bar, and not order the the brat plate special to get one of the brats cooked @ the bar over the charcoal. There is a big difference.

My head is both bloody and bowed, Jim. I hadn't read the thread in ages and when I drove by The Brat Stop on my way to the hotel, I remembered reading about the place. I'll be sure to go the bar route next time.

Needed a pit stop on the way south from Sobelman's, Brat Stop was the logical choice. $4 schooners of New Glarus Spoted Cow hit the spot. I wish we could get this beer in Illinois.

I knew I should have gotten a brat off the bar grill while I was enjoying the New Glarus as the buffet @ Silk Mandarin in Vernon Hills(our original destination for the day) was pretty/really bad. Ill give them the benifit of the doubt though since it was not their usual buffet but one set up for the party we attended.

Had a camping expedition for 10 at Mauthe Lake in Kettle Moraine last weekend and we had a need for a nice and quick dinner to cook once we were at camp.

This was a mandatory stop on the way and we grabbed some polish sausage and precooked brats along with some assorted snacks.

Awesome! Great flavor and value. When camping in Wisconsin you had better grab some brats. :)

Thanks for the tip on where to grab some.

FYI I went to the Brat Stop with a larger group (7 people) and sat at a table in the back. We all ordered brats and requested that they be cooked on charcoal at the bar. They happily obliged.

Been going to the Brat Stop as long as I can remember. Used to be a big treat when we got to stop on the way home (Waukegan) from Dad racing at Hales Corners .I remember the original joint. I try to stop when ever I can when going by.The only time remember a meal I wasnt happy with was when we were in the banquet hall for a wedding rehearsal dinner and some of that may have been alcohol induced   I tried to get the wife to run out and get us a couple of brats when we were at the Kenosha BBQ comp but instead ended up eating some dang ham and cheese . :( This year I will leave and go get them myself.

We made our customary lunch visit to the Brat Stop on our return from camping in Wisconsin yesterday. Never noticed the breakfast menu before, but tried an Egg von Brat-- which something like the apotheosis of an egg McMuffin-- the thick, juicy brat patty complemented by the egg-cheese topping and English muffin. Outstanding-- and served with very tasty home fries. Service was excellent: Becky, our waitress was prompt-- maybe a little too chatty, but quick with the orders and drinks! I love a good brat patty (as Charcoal Inn)-- wish I had been fast enough to take a photo!
