The St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Community of Niles invites you to share our Big Greek Hospitality, right in Niles! Experience the scents, sounds and tastes of a Greek village festival at the 2010 BIG GREEK FOOD FEST to be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, July 16,17 &18 on the church grounds at 7373 Caldwell Avenue in Niles.

Does roasted lamb sound good? We have it! How about souvlaki, Athenian chicken, pastitso, mousaka, home made tyropita and spanakopita? Come and try it! Taste our mouth-watering, authentic Greek pastries, or visit the Taverna and try the delicious octopus appetizer! And don't miss the best Loukoumathes in town!

Would you like to cook Greek food? Attend our Greek cooking demonstrations. Interested in the sights of Greece? View our beautiful and colorful films of the historic Acropolis, Mediterranean sun, the blue skies and sea, the scenic Grecian Isles. Do you feel like Greek dancing? For your entertainment, you can enjoy live Greek music and join the dancing, if you like!

What about the children? Visit our “Kid’s Korner” –a place where parents can bring their children to play in a secure area. The Kid’s Korner will feature a magic show, face painting, crafts, a clown balloon artist, games and much more to keep the children busy!

We also welcome you to enter our church and see the beautiful, hand-carved woodwork and classic Byzantine iconography. Have a tour of the church with a brief explanation of its traditional Byzantine architecture and appointments.


Our Greek Food Extravaganza will open Friday evening, from 5:00 pm until midnight, Saturday evening from 3:00 pm until midnight, and Sunday, from 3:00 pm until midnight. Free Admission Saturday and Sunday 3:00pm to 5:00pm. Admission is only $2.00 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for adults. Senior citizens are $1.00 and children under 12 are free. Im partial to the Fathers Day one at St Demetrios in Elmhurst but I do want to check this one out this year. It looks great.
Makes me long for the old Labor Day one at Assumption on Central and Harrsion. I beleive they still do that one but nowhere near as good as it was back in the day.

Check Friday's tribune - I saw a free admission pass in there somewhere for up to 4 people.

It's this weekend, 7/19/13 - 7/21/13. Quite possibly the 3rd best food event of the summer (right behind the LTHForum Picnic and the Green City Chef's BBQ). If I didn't gorge myself on lamb at the GCM BBQ last night, I'd be heading there now.

Is this a festival where all the Greek ladies get together and prepare the meals OR is the food prepared by an outside caterer?

All the food is prepared by church members. All of the grilling is done on site by Greek men. They even have cooking classes where the women of the church teach you how to prepare some of the dishes. I will try to fix my photos, so you can see the pictures in This old thread. This festival has the best food I have ever had at a Greek Festival (actually some of the best Greek food I have had, period). The festival is remarkably non-commercialized, especially for the size of the event. I hope it is still that way. It is much like the events from the 1970's, before the likes of Bud Light began sponsoring everything and plastering huge ads everywhere. Here are some more tasty food pix taken by LAZ.

The food was very good and would warrant a return next year. Large portion, reasonable prices, and very friendly people.

I have been disappointed in the last three Greek festivals that I attended.

Hi- I was tempted to go to it, since I had to work in Morton Grove on both Saturday and Sunday, but unfortunately both days I had to work until 9:00 pm, and both days while I was leaving work, it was raining, and I decided to pass. I hope all the rain did not hurt their business. I know that there were some power outages in Morton Grove at least on Friday evening too. I will try to go there next year. Thanks, Nancy
