Thoughts on where I can find the smokiest, tastiest baba ghanoush in Chicago? (no car - so suburbs aren't really an option). So far Semiramis seems to be the top contender. Thanks!

If it still exists outside of my literary imagination, Marrakech Cuisine on Ashland. You want the zaalouk if you're looking for smokier and more rustic.

Zaytune's in Bridgeport is also very nice, with bread made on premises.

Old Jerusalem's was always smokiest for me. Not nearly the best but certainly smokiest.

I'll honestly nominate Pita Inn's baba ghanoush. Never too garlicky, either, which is too common. Either at the restaurant or at their grocery store on Dempster Street. No car? I'll pick you up and treat you- it's that good.

Marrakech Cuisine was replaced in April with a Sudanese restaurant. Any other recommendations of the best (not necessarily smokiest) baba? I've got a serious hankering for some

I liked the baba ghanoush @ Wild Pita in Glenview which I think taste much better than Pita Inn's version which has little to no smoky flavor. The last time I tried the baba ghanoush at Wild Pita I thought it had a nice smoky eggplant taste and the price was good for the size.

I don't know if it is the smokiest, but Larsa's down the street from Pita Inn is pretty darn good. Plenty of posts about it on here .

I personally like Salam. It is very smokey and my favorite. I like it better than Semiramis. The restaurant is not as nice inside as some places but I like the food better. The shawarma is also really good.
