Boy, talk about an off night. You know it had to be a completely unfulfilling meal when you feel compelled to hit a Culver's (which I think is a totally disgusting excuse for a restaurant) on the long ride home; a form of self-imposed punishment.
Of the dishes we ordered last night - shrimp toast (seemed like they were made 3 days earlier), seafood hot n sour soup (insipid broth), crispy chicken (reminded me of the texture of my first baseball mitt), ong choi (watery), Yu Noodles Indonesian Style (so inconsequential that I can't think of even one descriptor) , (supposedly crispy) beef and bok choy chow fun, and the house special seafood trio (fried fish, shrimp, and squid topped with breadcrumb, diced jalapeno and scallion), the only one worth the calories was their always reliable seafood trio special....and even that dish was a tad off.
If I was voting on whether this place should get its GNR renewal based on last night's visit, it wouldn't stand a chance. But in all fairness to Fabulous Noodles, we have happily made several treks over the years out to Lisle for their usually stellar
crispy chow fun and seafood trio and those two dishes alone have always made the trip well worthwhile.
