Working on the south side with my son, we had the pleasure of experiencing two culinary delights. Duke's Italian Beef & Rainbow Cone. The "original rainbow cone" is composed of five flavors--chocolate, strawberry, pistachio and Palmer House (cherry flavored, with chunks of cherry and walnut) ice creams, along with orange sherbet--packed into a wedge atop your cone. What a unique treat! Living in the north suburbs, this is not a place that I go to often but is certainly well worth the trip. A Chicago institution.

Duke's Drive In typically rates very high in Best Italian Beef polls. I am a fan of some of the better known establishments like Johnnie's and Al's but after tasting Duke's Italian Beef, I'd have to rate them up there with the others. A bigger sandwich then Al's or Johnnie's, shreds of nicely seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth beef mound atop chewy, jus-soaked Italian bread. Their sandwich was delicious, well seasoned and must of contained a pound of beef for $3.25.
