Supposedly, the oldest Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh, Tamborini on 7th ave was better than what I've had elsewhere so far. Still not what I'd call stellar, but a darn sight better than last night.

Appetizer of stuffed banana peppers: nice heat, simple bread crumb stuffing with marinara and decently spicy, fine-grained Italian sausage slices on top of them. Nice serving (4 big peppers) for $7.75. It could have been a light meal for one.

I had the veal marsala, which was very tasty, excellent mushrooms, although much sweeter than I'm used to.

Good bread on the table, other dishes served included a stuffed salmon with risotto which looked very good, some beauts of fried shrimp, and eggplant parmesan which was reported to be very good.

So this place, I'd go back to on another trip.

Joel, have you seen MikeG's or my posts on P'Burgh and the Strip? Or some of the other posts on Tessaro's?

I'm afraid you might be missing out if you haven't. They all pop up if you search for "Pittsburgh."

I saw a few, I didn't find much. Perhaps I had the wrong search settings. I did get Gale's Pittsburgh guide.
Tonight we're off to Monteray Bay because we're entertaining clients and want to have the view from Mt Washington. To me, that's a yawner, but interesting "ethnic" places have been ruled out by my dining companions (sigh).
