More San Francisco

While looking around the web, asking locals, querying the concierge and using my senses to steer me, we stumbled upon Fino. My far better half, being from the island called Long, enjoys linguine with clams, and it looked like this joint might fill the bill. Unsuccessful in scoring a Friday night table, the old school look, small scale and heady aroma led us to reserve a table for Saturday night.

We started with some fried squid...

Tasted better than the pic looks; fresh and crunchy, we liked...

Barry had his linguine with clams...

It had a nice undercurrent of anchovy that made him alternately smile and swallow...

I supped on Veal Milanese...

Fresh and tender, with a bit of a tang, I soon made a happy plate...

For an old school Italian meal, we both would recommend it. The space had a old-time feel and the food was unpretentious and reasonably priced.

The website brags "moderate prices"; would you agree? I'm always looking for budget-friendly options for San Francisco dining. (EDIT: May have answered my own question: Fino's Menu, with prices.)

Yep, the pic is probably the main reason that I did not make reservations, but thought we would scope it out and take our chances on getting served...it did not happen, we were charmed by the place though and got reservations for the next night.

When we could not get served, we wandered South of Market and ate at Maya SF...

Barry had the langosta y camarones and I had the tampiqueña.
It was too dark and romantic to spoil with pictures, but we enjoyed the meal. My potato gratin was delightful and Barry loved the warm and cold aspect of his meal...
