Eating out often can add up. So I'm dedicating a thread to a round-up of the best weekly food (and drinks if included with the food) deals offered around town. Sometimes I want to go out and have a few brews maybe watch a game but dont want to pay $15 for food to go with it. Not when my main goal is to get tipsy. Lots of bars put out food deals that taste like the Bud Light its on special with. Not all though. One of my favorites is 1/2 price pizzas on Monday's at Three Ace's.

    Lamb Merguez Sausage Pizza

I've been coming here on/off since opening and can say they've perfected the cooking of these when ordered "Crispy" but I still have occasional service problems. Though that can be tolerated when on a night usually slow these pizza is half off (a Pizza Margherita is $5). My favorite is the lamb merguez sausage. Everything goes together really well, the crust is crispy and the sliced hot cherry peppers are addicting. A good place to go on Monday's. What other deals you got?

Gosh, I could probably come up with dozens, but off the top of my head, the FREE Polish/Korean BBQ on Monday nights during warm weather at Maria's Community Bar. Great beer, great food, and they've expanded the patio quite a bit. You haven't lived until you've had a spicy polish with kimchee on top.

*Edited to add that I also really like half priced pizza night at Three Aces.

My favorite weekly food special has been $3.00 Prime Burger Tuesday nights at Tap House Grill (multiple locations, I go to the one in Highwood). You get a great 8oz prime beef burger on a brioche bun (normally around $12.00). But there's always a slight catch. If you want cheese or bacon, add $1.00. If you want lettuce, tomato, onion, another dollar. If you want fries, tater tots, or (off menu) housemade chips, another dollar. But it's still a great deal for what you get and I think the burger is excellent. They also have a $4.00 Kobe burger special the same night, but I find the "Kobe" aka Wagyu beef all wrong for a burger - it's too soft so go with the Prime. It's not a bad place to watch a game or even eat outside if you want. The one knock on the Highwood location is the service can be slow depending on the server. They also have an all you can eat Fried Chicken special on Sunday nights for $10.00 that is pretty good too.

I, unlike DaBeef, do not drink, so it's all about the food specials for me.

Enjoyed my favorite weekly special last night as a matter of fact--any 3 courses (app, 1/2 pasta, main or dessert) of beautifully prepared, seasonal fare at Anteprima for $29--Sunday thru Thurs. Last night's feast included crispy goat conserva over melty greens and shallots, spaghetti with crunchy slices of fresh baby artichoke and halibut in parchment with mushrooms and purple asparagus with sorrel pesto ($5 up charge for the Halibut but SOOO worth it).

    Terrific idea for a thread.

    1) Just last week, I was at New England Seafood Company on a Tuesday - when they have their all-you-can-eat fish-n-chips for about 11 bucks, IIRC. No beer (but BYOB is free - which we did from nearby). Excellent.

    2) Terrific fish-n-chips *with beer* can be found, AYCE, at Ginger's on Fridays - also for about 12 bucks IIRC. (OK, its not quite as great as the Wisco Fish Frys... but its still very good).

    3) My absolute fave to-go special is Uncle John's BBQ - which, on Mondays and Tuesdays, gives you a full-slab of very good ribs for about 14 bucks; and a half-pan of best-in-class Tips, Links, or Tips & Links, for 26 bucks (enough food to feed at least 4 people)

    4) For what you specifically mentioned above - bars, that have specials... OK, its not *less* than 15 bucks- rather exactly 15 on the nose :-) But, probably the best in the city IMHO, is one Ive managed to try only once so far - Barn and Company on Thursdays (their all-you-can-eat-Ribs-for-15-bucks day). I made it there once, like I said - and had some terrific ribs (with good ole PBR in a can, among many other drink specials!). And then GWiv strolled on by.. which meant pleasant BBQ conversation, the kitchen sending out Flintstone-esque (and very very good) Beef Ribs... and then GW showing off by having them throw in a couple slices of brisket too (which was actually the best brisket Ive had in Chicago - better than even Smoque on the day. I really need to get back to try their Lamb Ribs). I love Uncle John's, I like Barbara Ann's and Honey One... but for a spot for excellent smoked meat (with, amazingly, AYCE portions on Thursday!) combined with beverages and a place one can while away a couple three hours in convivial company, Barn and Company cant be beat in the city, IMHO. The single best "watch-a-game, have-a-beer, and consume excellent-BBQ" place in Chicagoland, I would think.

    5) Every Wednesday are "Weiner Wednesdays" at Evanston's Weiner and Still Champion. Very good hot dogs (Chicago or any other style), plus best-in-class fries, for IIRC 2 bucks a pop. Even if youre not a dog fan (and who isnt?), its worth it for the fries alone!

My recent fave has been $7 Margherita Mondays at Pizzeria da Nella. There is no compromise on ingredients, blistering doneness, or size (more generous than most, actually), and they are happy to serve. An easy pathway for digging into the burrata, well-constructed (if slightly sweetly dressed) salads, or calamari, though pie is what they do best.

Not crazy cheap, but the $12 half fried chicken at Frontier is special. I typically avoid anything on Monday nights save football season, but that can get me out of the house.

And two-for-one pizzas at Frasca on Wednesdays is solid.

The new Starland in the old Ripasso space (1619 N Damen) and from their team has a Sunday special fried chicken dinner, $15 per person. The price includes a beer or cocktail, 3 pieces of notably crunchy fried chicken, nice red cabbage slaw, collard greens, mashed potatoes, biscuits, and an excellent banana pudding for dessert. Pretty serious bargain, sweet waitstaff, and you can also order supplements from their regular menu of comfort food small plates. We had the corn custard with basil, which was totally outstanding, perhaps a holdover from Ripasso's talented ways with sformato. Our 8 month old daughter would report on the corn custard in the "Best Thing I've Eaten Lately thread," if she could write.

Reno in Logan Square has two for $20 pizzas on Tuesday nights.
I recently had the Meg, (described as: ARBOL PEANUT SALSA / SPINACH / SMOKED ONION / PIQUILLO PEPPER ) and it was delicious--I especially enjoyed the arbol peanut salsa. It's vegan, and I am not, but I enjoyed it very much nonetheless.

On Fridays, you can't beat the $5 burgers at Big Chicks (located on Sheridan, between Argyle and Foster). Comes with a huge portion of fries or salad. You also get a choice of cheese (including brie, blue, cheddar, and more) without any extra cost.
