I LOVE the Japanese sweet potatoes I found at Green Acres Farm stand at the Evanston Farmer's Market. Does anybody know whether this stand is at any other markets in Chicagoland, or is there another place to get Japanese sweet potatoes? They should be coming out very soon...

Green Acres is also at Green City Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They may be at other markets as well.

I remember seeing catnip tea at the Evanston market a few years back. Does anyone know if that guy is still there? Also, I wondered if anyone knew a source for fresh 'nip. Since it's a mint, I was thinking of seeing if it would make a nice ice cream.

Hi- You are not referring to Henry Brockman's sister Teresa are you? She is located right next to Henry's stand, and she sells lots of fresh herbs, and some tea. I am not sure if she sells catnip tea or not. I can's think of anybody else there that sells tea.

I dunno. I remember buying it from a guy, so maybe he took over the stand for a day. I have no sense of direction, but this stand was at a corner of the market. This was a few years ago, so it could be that they're not even there anymore.

Aha! That is her. I remember buying Peter Rabbit Tea once. Thanks! I may have to contact her once I nail down a date to go to the market and see if I can buy a handful of fresh nip.

Who knows, catnip ice cream could be the new mint chocolate chip.

I'd be happy to give you a huge bunch if you can't find her....we grow it in our herb garden for our cat, who's crazy about it (and crazy after he ingests it). I have to admit I've never even thought of tasting it, as the odor's not too appealling to me. I know it's a member of the mint family, but it doesn't have any of the characteristic mint flavor that I'm aware of. Maybe tonight I'll try a nibble and see (if the cat doesn't get it first).

Hi- I checked while I was at the Evanston market today, and Teresa did have Catnip for $2.50 a bunch. If that is a member of the mint family then it is super hardy, and she should have it until the market closes the beginning of November. Teresa and Henry relocated to the back of the market this season so he has room to park his truck there. They used to be in the front across from Nichols.

Smits Farm also had it at the Evanston Farmers' Market. They may also have it at the other markets where they sell:
