This past Sunday after the Bears pulled a win out of their hat, the family decided to go out to celebrate---and avoid shopping, dishes etc. We thought about the Hofbrauhaus in Rosemont, but went the other direction down Division to Small Bar. We had never heard of the place until coming upon a link on a website and thought why not.
Mrs. Johnnies and Johnnies Jr. enjoyed their appetizers of Scotch egg, pumpkin seeds and drop biscuits. The biscuits were in my opinion the best--cheesy, buttery, well baked and a generous portion for $6.
Moving on, we all enjoyed our entrees. I had the garlic sausage dish plopped on a cornbread base. Not doing injustice, but so tasty and absolutely hitting the spot on a Rainey Chicago evening.
Mrs. Had the veg tart which she thoroughly enjoyed. Jr. filled his appetite with a tower of burger including bacon, cheese and a fried egg. Sure, it is done all over town, but Small Bar's was definitely a competitor in this arena.
We washed it all down with a couple glasses of Zin, Green Flash La Freak (beer) and Jr's Sprite.
Finished off with Pot De Creme and a delicious slice of cheesecake, cheerfully comped by our super friendly waitress.
Overall experience was comfortable and delicious. We came in with now expectations and were very pleasantly surprised. We will be back. I think our experience benefited from the fact that Sunday night is not super busy.
