In case the edit to my original post isn't seen, please update my RSVP to reflect 2 adults and 2 kids (both under 3 yrs old).

We will be bringing Filipino BBQ sticks (chicken and pork)... which will need to be grilled once we arrive. Will anyone kindly allow us to the use their grill?

    Hi,

I think there will be no problems getting you some grill space.

Good you advised, because editing an old post would never have been noticed.

Sunday is super crazy for the A&A family but I will be at the picnic on the early end of things -- not yet clear if Antonius and Lucantonius will be able to attend at all.

I will reprise the dish I brought to the very first picnic: pay de coco, Yucatecan coconut pie.

I was wobbly on bringing the tamales; usually I cook something myself. But they seem to fit nicely in with the rest of the menu so Imma stick with them.

You know what I'm not seeing on this menu? ICE. Maybe this Sunday won't be as hot as other picnic days have been, but ice is always useful in the drink area. So put me down for 2 kinds of tamales [I'll cut them into pieces and waltz some around as an appetizer], a couple bottles of Polish mineral water [not gonna try to spell the brand name] and 2 bags of ice.

    Hi,

Yep, you're right about the ice. I will bring a cooler to keep some of the ice until it is needed.

There are few people waiting for advice on what to bring. So thanks for highlighting this.

I was asked to write something about the history of our picnic:

Cathy2 wrote:When the LTHForum.com community was young, those of us who were part of it felt a sense of discovery whenever we interacted closely with one another.

Yes, everyone knew we were interested in restaurant dining. But it quickly became apparent (through the Cooking & Shopping forum) that LTHForum.com was abundant with terrific bakers, beverage innovators, cooks, home brewers, picklers and pitmasters. Even the more modest cooks were quite discerning about where they shopped for baked goods and carry-out food.

So, to create an opportunity for sampling each other’s creations and unique food sources, LTHForum.com birthed an egalitarian all-for-one-and-one-for-all picnic. Everyone brings a dish, effectively helping to host the event and make it unique. A picnic permit and piñata are paid for through a few dollars tacked on to the price of the LTHForum.com Holiday Party.

The LTHForum Annual Picnic is a gift that keeps on giving. Come, sit down, and eat your food!

I am now going to bring the appetizer Thai-style miang kham, but I am having trouble locating betel leaves. If anyone knows where to get some, or even better just brings some to the picnic and I will pay you back, that would be fabulous. Otherwise I will make do with spinach or lettuce leaves.

    Hi,

I have seen these at Mitsuwa. Perhaps it is the Japanese, they have them neatly stacked with a rubberband at the stem for around two or three dollars for bundle of maybe 25.
