    Hello all,

I am sad to say that we will not be able to attend the picnic. We are in the throes of dealing with the aftermath of a bad flood from the storm Wednesday night. Sorry to miss everyone...

I'm gonna bring a number of differently aged bottles (in plastic) of Slow City Makgeolli, the first domestically brewed Korean rice wine (based in Niles).

so sorry that you've flooded and that the misery is compounded by you having to miss the picnic. i grew up in a house where we had several major floods, so i have a sense of how nightmarish it must be for you. all the best, joan

I would like to come, probably with husband and child. Do you still need ice? Tablecloths? Seems like there's plenty of food so i'm happy to bring whatever non-food items you still require. I have a cooler i can store the ice in. I have some unopened whiskey sitting in my cabinet as well if people would like somet of that too.

Ice is always nice--team Taco will need for sure (for the kegs, as well as for storage of meat). Whiskey is never rejected.

    Look forward to meeting you!

    Hi buttercream-

One thing you'll learn about LTHers is that there's never too much food. ;-) If you'd like to bring a dish, it would be welcomed. I think tablecloths are covered. Ice and a cooler would be good. Please remember that glass containers are not allowed, so let that guide you on bringing the whiskey.

Enjoy the picnic. It is truly an amazing day of food and people.

I'll bring the cooler, ice, and some type of dish then. if i can find some receptacle for the whiskey, that will come along to. i like cooking. it's just trying to think of something that will meet LTH standards for tastiness and creativity. i'll let you know what i come up!

Empty water bottles work well for short-term storage. I buy a 1-liter bottle, consume the water and use the empty bottle for the liquor. These work better than those overpriced plastic flasks you'll see at various liquor stores. The caps on those are terrible and tend to leak. Otoh, water bottles are well-designed for carrying liquids!

    Hi,

I am in Galesburg, IL for an Alaskan salmon bake. When I get i,n this evening, I will be making nametags and labels.

I will do a stop at Fullmer's Smoked and Frfesh Fish for some smoked fish. An idiosyncratic Ma and Pa business learned from Jim Duncan, an Iowa food writer.

Those bringing ice, if you can bring a cooler to keep it cold and clean, this is appreciated. I will bring an extra cooler from home just for this purpose.

Buttercream - bring a dish you like to eat. Later there will be a thread on cooking and shopping where many will share their recipe for those who want it.

Thanks for making this picnic work by your contributions and efforts.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I have decided to make shrimp and pork shumai. This will be my first attempt. The man at the grocery store asked why I didn't just buy the already prepared frozen shumai. If he had to ask, I figured there wasn't much point trying to explain. see you tomorrow!

Greetings earthlings. Just got the confirmation call. As previously mentioned I will be attending and so will Yoland...in spirit anyway. Coming with me* will be 120 Delta Style Hot Tamales and a cooler of my moms old family recipe "thumb juice" which is great as is or mixed with a little bit of some hard liquor. Also some napkins and canned beverages from the club I've been wanting to get rid of :). Only thing I don't have is some Robert Johnson to throw on at the tamale station. Please put me down for two guests. They may or may not show with me. I'm trying to find a couple people willing to not watch football for a few hours but still drink well while eating much better than potato chips and onion dip. I plan on landing around 11a.

Alan - Queen City Cayenne is chocolate ice cream with a little cayenne and cinnamon kick. Also bringing peanut butter chocolate crackle and a maple pecan though the maple pecan is looking a little dodgy right now. I've been rocking my ice cream maker all day.

Piggy-backing on the theme of bacon and sugar, I made about a pound of Bacon Brittle. Just got home from out of town at 6:30 p.m. tonight, so homemade sausage was out. Still bringing Mexican Cheesy Cornbread and the addition of the brittle.
