I was on my way home from a Route 66 trip Saturday night and remembered seeing a segment on Chicago's Best about a pizza joint in Plainfield called Luigi's. Even though their menu indicated they were famous for their thin crust, the deep dish was featured on the show, so that's what I decided to try.
I was impressed. It was another unique take on the Chicago Deep Dish style. This one was a little more like Pequod's with a little breadier dough than most deep dish, but it tasted great. The sauce was bright and tasty, not chunky. They serve it without the pan, but it worked fine that way. They also cut the large pizzas in squares, which has got to be the only place I ever heard doing that to deep dish pizza. My girlfriend and I shared a smaller pizza, which as you can see below came cut the usual way. Service was excellent. I would definitely go back here if in the area, but I don't see myself driving an hour from home for it. On the other hand, if you add a trip to Home Cut Donuts in Joliet (open 24 hours) along with it and maybe a casino, then it starts to make sense.
