Went to Fortune Restaurant on South 108th for lunch today and ordered their "Hong Kong Fried Rice" from the Chinese menu:

As well as being visually impressive, it was damned tasty. Has anyone ever encountered a rice dish like this before somewhere else in the world besides Hales Corners? BTW, the fried rice, although not visible, does exist. It is hiding under the sauces....

    There are two actually Fortunes.

Fortune in Hales Corners is at 5512 S. 108th
    There's a West Allis location and that's the one that's at 2945 S. 108th

I've mostly been to the one in Hales Corners and it's excellent. I believe though that both locations have the same menus. Their shrimp with honey walnut is one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant in the area.

Similar rice dishes appear as "tycoon fried rice," "millionaire's fried rice" and the like. Several places in Chinatown have had similar dishes. Go 4 Food does, IIRC.

Well...I can't say I felt like a millionaire or tycoon, but there was something opulent about it...and it was a nice change from the usual. Next up will be their "salted fish and diced chicken" fried rice...I'll report back soon.

Ken Kee in Chinatown has an identical fried rice dish called "Yin Yan Fried Rice"
