Took advantage of a great special last month. Crested Butte ski resort picked up all but $16.00 of our flights when we booked our trip through the main website. You fly into nearby Gunnison airport rather than Denver. We also received 25% off lodging, lift tickets and transfers but I think that gimmick has expired if you want to jump on the bandwagon. I know very little about the mountain or the resort, but the savings were over $1,600 as compared to Big Sky.

Now the big question, where do we eat after a day on the slopes? An old town exists a couple of miles down the mountain with numerous choices, however as most of you know, these towns can be a minefield due to the short seasons. We are pretty much up for any type of food or price point so long as it is good. Any help would be appreciated or any tips about the mountain itself.

Thanks

It's been quite a while since I've spent time in Gunnison but I will say that Crested Butte is quite a mountain. It's far less "touristy" than a lot of CO ski resorts i.e. the ratio of green, blue, and black runs leans more toward black. One thing that they pride themselves on is being one of the more natural resorts in Co. I love the place but when I was last there I was still in college and hardly thinking about anything other than being on the slopes. No food recs but the slopes are awesome!

If you fly fish the Gunnison is great as well.

Enjoy!

You've made a great choice for your ski trip - one you won't regret and my guess is you'll be back for more! There are plenty of great places to eat in town. Check out our restaurant guide for some ideas:

A few of my favorites are Secret Stash (pizza), Ginger Cafe (Thai), and Le Bosquet (French). This small town packs some serious punch for its size. Would love to hear about your trip - feel free to email or post on our Facebook page :D

Wow, great service! :) I wanted to visit Crested Butte last year, but my girlfriend was tired of driving all over Colorado.

We just spent a week at CB with a group of 36. What we liked:

Pizza:
The Secret Stash
http://www.stashpizza.com/
Excellent and inventive pizza in decidedly eclectic surroundings. Located inside "The Company Store" building on Elk Avenue.

Casual continental fare (and a 4-course prix fixe dinner for $28):
Le Bosquet

Hard to find but worth it!

Thai:
Ginger Cafe
http://www.thegingercafe.com/
Also on Elk Avenue, the main drag in town

Secret Stash and Le Bosquet sound great. Not into Thai. I'm expecting to be in Colorado this year, at least a week, maybe a month or more. I really want to get down to Crested Butte at some point, but I have other things I want to see first. We're going to be quite a ways from there in Steamboat Springs, although I want to do my exploring thing and drive around the state again - this time SW Colorado. We shall see.

Forgot to mention one - and it was a good one:

Marchitelli's Gourmet Noodle
441 3rd St
Crested Butte, CO
marchitellisgourmetnoodle.com

We were a party of 19 and they handled us with skill and elan - and for the size of the kitchen this was quite an accomplishment. Bread service was top-notch - you bring me baskets of fresh, warm sourdough and compound butter and I am a happy man. Everyone's main dishes were delicious and served piping hot - no complaints from anyone. Elk scallopine was a popular choice and did not disappoint.

The lone disappointment was the "cream of mushroom" soup which was broth, not cream, based and didn't have much mushroom flavor. Pass on this one.

This place is on a corner off Elk Avenue and located in what appears to be an old house. The entrance is hard to miss and the sign is small - but the quality of the food and service is HUGE!
