Good restaurants in Elmhurst?

Hi Everyone,

I just got a new job in Elmhurst and I was wondering if anyone here has any dining experiences in this suburb that they'd like to share. Any cuisine, price range, whatever. As long as it's good! Or bad.

A go-to restaurant for me and my family is Armand's. In my opinion, they have some of the best thin-crust pizza around. It's not cracker thin crust, but thin enough. Armand's outpost in Elmhurst has a nice bar area, and the restaurant also serves the standard Italian entrees. Their antipasto salad is also quite good, too. Their restaurant is right along the train tracks on First Street.

Nathan's Noodles on York Rd., good thai, best panang curry in chicagoland, bar none, including the big guns, Spoon, TAC etc. Also one of the best eggrolls in chicagoland. Way better than Som Chai which is also in Elmhurst

Red Dragon in dowtown elmhurst on third st has decent chinese, especially good sesame chicken

Scooby's on Grand serves up a good dog.

Frescos on york in downtown elmhurst has great fresh panninis and made to order potato chips.

Wok N Fire in downtown elmhurst, also off york is spotty, but has some really good entrees, depending on what you get. Not everything is great here though

You've also got Francesca's Amici (Italian) on York Rd., 100 South (OK steaks, good fish) on York just over the south side of the tracks.

On York and North Ave. is the hamburger stand Hamburger Heaven, great root-beer shakes. Thin burgers, some like them (I've been going since I was 4), some don't, but it's been there for over 50 years.

On the next street over west from York is Pizza Palace. OK pizza, but on Friday's the older woman who owns it makes homemade pies.

Cafe Amano is another great place. I especially like their Cottage Hill salad...it has a neat banana viniagarette. They also have great coffee (blended by Intelligentsia). They have live jazz a couple nights a week, too. Stopped in last Thurs. and the band was really, really good. Another thing that is neat is that they do wine flights but also do, for example, a Grand Marnier flight, a tequila flight, and a cognac flight. They are also on the south side of the tracks, right across from 100 South.

There are also 2 other new places...Chow ( www.chowtogo.com ) and Tutto Bene. Been to Chow 3-4 times....food is really good...their menu is online and updated daily. THey also have a small rotating cheese selection which has been nice each time I've gone. Interesting beverage selections, too...'yuppie' style bottled iced teas, Dogfish Head beers...
Only 1 small 2 person table, though, so don't plan on eating in there.

The cookies and biscotti are really good at Tutto Bene and they make a caprese panini I like. Haven't tried much of their other savory stuff, but I am definitely hooked on their sweets (coffee is good, too--also from Intelligentsia). It's a really friendly place, too, and they have a counter and tables so you can dine- in.

I second the Nathan's suggestion, btw. The eggrolls are really good and the curries are great. They deliver, too.
