I tried the PB&J and chocolate covered donuts. I was not a fan of the PB&J as the grape jelly was too sweat and over packed the donut spilling out everywhere. However the chocolate donut which I think is pictured in the above post tasted awesome... It had a rich chocolate ganache like taste to it which emphasizes the quality of the ingredients. Also they had samples the day I went (last Wed) and the lemon donut was awesome as well.

The one thing i didn't know or might have been a mistake but on the receipt I saw a tax rate @ 10.75% (not sure if this is some kinda sugar tax?) but i thought the Cook County tax rate was 9.75%?

Not trying to dis anything, just trying to understand. Did they just tro a piece of bacon on top of a long john, or is there something inside as well?

AWESOME NAME FOR A DONUT SHOP.

Maple glaze over the yeast LJ but no filling. Still really good not over the top at all.

Having tried all of the new doughnut shops in town (and every flavor offered), I will say without any hesitation that Glazed and Infused is so far and above my favorite (and overall favorite including old standards). It's hard for me to pick a favorite flavor, but creme brulee, pb&j, chocolate cake and red velvet are all outstanding. So is the maple-bacon longjohn, and I'm usually very opposed to maple in sweets. And today's special of coconut was quite simply the best coconut doughnut I've ever tasted. What the hell - the apple fritter is also delicious, nicely crisp on the outside, not too sweet and offers plenty of apple chunks. Although they might save me a trip to OFD on occasion, I still love the apple fritter at OFD (when packed w/apple chunks -- not always the case) and occasionally want a caramel (although Swedish Bakery makes a damn fine version). I could really just scroll through their flavors and pick a new favorite depending upon my mood - they're all terrific.

The first part of their success can be traced to the doughnut itself: be it yeast or cake, these doughnuts have the perfect texture. The cake doughnuts have the perfect crumb, neither too light nor too dense. The yeast doughnuts too, which fortunately are not over-risen (a problem I encounter way too often). Flavors are also so well done and deliver the flavors promised and intensity I desire.

Now, if I want to be picky I will point to very minor flaws: the fillings tend to be a little thinner than those at most doughnut shops. You might prefer that to the typical thick, gloppy stuff in most filled doughnuts, but I would prefer the fillings to be just a tad thicker (be careful if not eating over a plate because they'll spill). I might also demand a little more vanilla flavor in the creme brulee custard filling (it's still very tasty and I love the bruleed exterior). But again, very minor critiques.

A dozen will set you back at least $35, so just know that you're not shopping DD, but if you spend the money you'll be pleasantly rewarded. I'm sure there are many people who are willing to spend a few more $$ on more sophisticated desserts, but not breakfast breads that use the same high quality ingredients - fine, just be a couple.

Here's a link to their website. Note that they now have three locations, with one opening soon near the Armitage Brown Line stop.

I've been enjoying G&I too. Aside from two misses - the Chocolate4 was so dry we couldn't choke it down, and the PB&J was just nasty - everything has been top notch. I was most impressed by the maple bacon bar, a concept I haven't liked at other shops, and the fantastic creme brulee. I bought an assortment to take home but accidentally ate the brulee ones. Oops.

I had my first Glazed and Infused doughnut today because someone nicely brought them into the office. The chocolate is decadent! So rich that I ate half earlier and will have the other half when I need a boost this afternoon.

Glazed & Infused will soon open at 939 W. Armitage Ave., but it already has its next spot, this time downtown, in the works.

The one on Damen is probably the single most irritating place I've ever attempted to try. No less than 5 times and never open or avail. When I finally met an actual worker, I was began to tell her as much. She turned and walked away mid sentence.

I like donuts, but (thankfully) don't love them enough to go out of my way for them. I tried G&I (Fulton location) back in November. My brother and I split the Maple Bacon longjohn and another longjohn with 4 sections to it. Overall it was ok, way overpriced for just donuts. I wouldn't mind trying a few more there, but I can't see myself going back anytime soon. If you love donuts, I am sure you'll want to check them out.

I've been to G&I three times. I love them. The maple and bacon longhohn is superb - perfect combo of sweet and savory. The apple fritter is perfect. I must say the PBnJ was too goopy to be easily eaten.

They are very rich and should be shared. Yes, they are expensive too. But as a treat they are fantastic.

Finally got to G&I (939 W. Armitage Ave) this morning.

Tried the maple/bacon longjohn, buttermilk, crème brulee.

    Everything was just ok.

For instance, the buttermilk didn't have any real buttermilk flavor, plus WAY TOO much frosting on it.

Crème brulee was the best of my grouping, but the only reason is because the filling was delicious.

Glad I checked this place off the list, give me a well made plain cake or buttermilk donut any day over this stuff.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Have you tried Do-Rite early morning (~8am)? The Buttermilk Old-Fashioned is excellent, even more so if the tray has just come from the kitchen.

I tried their spot on Armitage - and was not impressed. There were four young women "working" there, I was the only customer and yet it was extraordinarily hard to get their attention to make a purchase - and they were all standing right in front of me. They were so involved in debating some fine point of their vacation schedules - blech.

They did have samples out of their coffee glazed donut - and it was not good enough to overcome the lack of service. So I too will happily skip at least one diet menance.

Who's the new donut spot next to the new Davanti Enoteca on Hubbard? Looked like they had La Colombe coffee which makes a donut run from the office rather enticing.

FYI -- this one has been open for a couple of months now. Not clear if you were suggesting it was opening or just a mistype on the verb tense, but either way it's been a good addition to the area.

stopped by a friend's place this morning, they had some fresh G&I donuts they had picked up.

I was again able to try the old fashioned (G&I's version of buttermilk), again no buttermilk flavor and the frosting/glaze actually tasted pasty. Their website states that it is a "spiced buttermilk cake", I think not.

Crème brulee was tasty, but again the only reason is because the filling is delicious.

Also was able to try two others:
Vanilla Bean glazed which was a waste of calorie input, nothing special nor vanilla bean about it.

A sugar coated donut, was the best of the bunch as I could actually taste the donut as it didn't have glaze but that isn't saying much.

Count me as not a fan.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

I've been to the West Loop location multiple times, and I'm just not a fan. Everything looks beautiful (which is why I stop in after PQM), but is over-sugared to the point where it's hard to taste any other flavors in it. By contrast, Do-Rite Donuts and Doughnut Vault (the truck, anyway; I haven't been to the actual store yet) emphasize the actual flavors of their ingredients, and are textually superior as well.

Gourmet doughnut purveyor Glazed & Infused plans to open its first Loop outpost in spring 2015, the restaurant said today.
The doughnut shop, part of Scott Harris' Francesa's Restaurant Group, will be on the lobby level on the southwest corner of the office building at 222 N. LaSalle St., which also is slated to get the forthcoming Prime & Provisions steakhouse early next year. It will be the sixth location for two-year-old Glazed & Infused, joining stores in Fulton Market, Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Streeterville and River North.
