Coming to the former Gabriel's spot in Highwood (310 Green Bay Road) is PM Prime, a new steakhouse according to this item on Eater.

And here's a much more detailed look.

We carried out from Goddess & Grocer on Friday night, and even though I knew they'd be closing soon, I was impressed that there was no real sign of this. The customary variety of fresh foodstuffs was for sale, all in abundance behind the glass and in the refrigerator case. No feeling of "hunkering down" or "winding down" or "limping along" before the closure. So they went out with style.

Eater had a blurb about G&G today and it was most definitely a lease dispute. Really sad - hopefully someone will swoop in to fill the void. That's such a great location along with Cru next door. Luckily Le Pain Quotidien is opening right near there (they have their window ads and "Hiring now" in the window now) but you know...

My guess is Goddess & Grocer will open up in the West Loop/Fulton Market. It would fit right into that area big time. I also had no idea they are opening up a place soon at the international terminal of O'Hare.

Also posted on Ceres' Table thread:

Good news for fans of Ceres’ Table – posted on Chicago Mag website:

Ceres’ Table Will Reopen in Lake View
The Italian spot last seen in Uptown will take over the space vacated by Frog N Snail.
Coming down from Uptown, Ceres’ Table has found a new home in Lake View (3124 N. Broadway, 773-935-4000), in the space vacated by Frog N Snail. The original location on Clark Street closed in December; its reincarnation is pegged for April.
Ceres’ was isolated at 4882 N. Clark St., a low-foot-traffic retail nether-region south of Andersonville’s main drag. That’s in the past—along with the noise of the old dining room. “It’s not even an issue here. There are soundproofing tiles in the ceilings,” says Caryn Struif, now a partner with chef/owner Giuseppe Scurato.
There will be a new wood-burning pizza oven and a station for carpaccios and seafood crudos, along with a concomitant increase in menu items meant to share. With the shifted focus from the new menu items, the cost of a dinner will likely come down slightly.
What remains unchanged is the Italian orientation, Leticia Zenteno on desserts, and certain menu items, such as the arancini. “I can’t take it off the menu. People will try to kill me,” Scurato says. “I tried to take it off once, and everyone was so upset.” If you know one of these unhinged arancini-lovers, please try to get them to hold it together until April.

Admittedly I need a few more data points here, but we just carried out lunch and I had one the best bahn mi sandwiches I've ever had. My sandwich was in the league of Nhu Lan down the street. I see this place becoming a neighborhood staple.

Interesting. The city I lived in before Chicago had them. It's decent but I didn't think it was anything special and definitely nothing I'd go out of my way for.

I drove by the former site of Barnum & Bagel in Skokie earlier today. It's finally being torn down. Made me very sad. I ate a LOT of their very good mish mosh soup at the counter there back in the day (or, as they called it, "Kit & Kaboodle" soup), whcih came with a bread basket of bialys and mini-bagels. That, along with their good strong coffee the bulldog edition of the Sunday Sun-Times, was a Saturday afternoon tradition for me for a long time. Now both the B&B AND the Sun-Times Sunday paper are but ghosts.

    *sigh*

Rumors of openings are fine, as long as they don't also reference a rumored closing. Straight-out rumors of closings are not.

I'd read the same thing about Pita Inn going into that space. Is is possible they're going to be building from scratch?

Not a rumor, per the 9.19.13 Skokie Patch:
Skokie favorite The Pita Inn will knock down the deteriorating Barnum and Bagel building and put up a new restaurant.

    What do you mean?

Over seven months ago, jay2021 wrote:The Barnum & Bagel property on Dempster just east of Skokie Blvd. has been purchased by Pita Inn.

I’m a little surprised the Sun-Times/Skokie Review article didn't mention Aunt Jemima's Kitchen (and the other restaurants in that building before Barnum & Bagel). The article incorrectly gives the impression that Barnum & Bagel was there since the 1950s.

Mike Isaacs in the Skokie Review wrote:The Pita Inn plans to knock the building down to its foundation and build from there. When Barnum and Bagel shut down in 2007, it was not in great shape. Plumbing and electricity systems were the same as the original ones from the 1950s when the restaurant first opened.

    Rene G wrote:
BuddyRoadhouse wrote:Aunt Jemima's Pancake House was on Dempster, located in the building that was most recently occupied by Barnum & Bagel.

Wow, who knew Aunt Jemima was from Skokie? Actually Aunt Jemima's Pancake House began at Disneyland in the 1950s. Aunt Jemima's Kitchen, which opened on Dempster in 1960, was the prototype for a chain of restaurants with an expanded menu of Southern food. The building was designed to resemble a plantation manor house (traces of the columns in front remained at Barnum & Bagel). At one time in the 1960s there were about 30 franchises, including one on Rand Road in Mount Prospect.

Aunt Jemima has deep roots in Chicago. Nancy Green, the former slave hired to portray Aunt Jemima, got her start making pancakes at the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893.

Was there another restaurant in that building in the 1950s? I thought Aunt Jemima's was newly built and opened toward the end of 1960.

Mt. Greenwood Residents Heartbroken over Closing of 'Wonderburger'
The most famous burger joint in Mount Greenwood is now closed.

Grant's Wonderburger owners announced Tuesday their decision to shutter the 60-year-old business.

"It has been an emotional few months for our family and we will miss this place dearly! We cannot thank our customers, family, and friends enough for all the love and support you have given us throughout the years," wrote the owners on the restaurant's Facebook page.

Owned by the Grant family, the Mount Greenwood burger joint first opened in 1954 and was closed briefly on Dec. 31 as the owners made a deal to sell the restaurant. But that deal fell through, and Wonderburger bounced right back into business Jan. 9—deciding to stay open while still up for sale.

"It's a sign Wonderburger!" wrote one Patch commenter. "Please don't leave us!"
Despite the reopening, customers' relief was short-lived, as the owners announced its closure this week. Loyal customers expressed appreciation and love for the local favorite.

Some fans wondered if the restaurant has really served its last burger—asking the family if perhaps it's been sold to a new owner. Those queries on the Facebook page went unanswered.
