nstohs@journalsentinel.comThe Association of Food Journalists — a professional organization dedicated to preserving and promoting responsible food journalism across media platforms — is now accepting entries for its 28th
The contest is open to both AFJ members and food writers and editors who are not members of the association.
Founded in 1974 primarily to serve food journalists working at newspapers and magazines, the association has been working to expand its membership and contest categories to include today’s wide range of freelance and staff food writers and editors.
Of the 13 awards categories in the 2014 competition, three are for newspapers only; most of the others are open to writers and editors working across both print and online platforms.
This year, for the first time, AFJ is offering online entry and payment options, making it easier than ever to enter the contest. (Mailed-in entries are still welcome.)
Low entry fees make the competition accessible to independent bloggers and freelancers as well as to journalists employed by media companies. Students enrolled in degree-granting programs or culinary schools may enter for free.
First-place winners in each category receive a $300 cash prize.
For more details about the competition categories and submission requirements, see the
2014 Call for Entries. An online entry form can be accessed from that document.
Competition deadline:
All entries must be submitted electronically by midnight EST on March 15, 2014 OR postmarked on or before March 15, 2014.
