My friend and I attempted to go to Burt's last night. (Thursday night.) He took care of calling ahead, shortly after 4:30. He got a machine and so left a message. Given that he hadn't been able to reach anyone in person, we were aware that we were taking a bit of a chance going over there; but it wasn't that far from where we were, so we were willing to roll the dice. We found the place closed. (This was about 6:30 PM.) No harm, no foul; we went over to Pequod's.

Since Burt's hours normally include Thursdays, I hope this was a one-off and doesn't portend anything.

Doing some work in the kitchen. Should be reopened on Wednesday, March 5th.

BTW, the answering machine is only set up for the outgoing message; it doesn't record messages from callers.

Not surprised about the "outgoing message only" part; my friend said he had his doubts whether his message was being recorded. (He wasn't sure he heard a beep.)

It would obviously have been helpful if the outgoing message had contained the information that the place was closed until March 5. Recording a new outgoing message is pretty much 1981 technology, and shouldn't tax even a Luddite who lives by his own rules. So that's mildly irritating. However, good to hear there is nothing more serious going on.
