    Hi all,

I'm a former Chicagoan who will be visiting in a week. How did I disappoint myself? I booked myself into an Air BnB at Diversey and Clark, and I'm starting to understand this is a little too far from my old neighborhood.

Where I currently live: Los Angeles

Where I lived in Chicago: all over Boystown, with significant time spent in south Loop, Andersonville, and Logan Square

How I'll be getting around: on foot, and on CTA

What I'm looking for: recommendations for bar/restaurants/diners where I can meet with old friends and share a drink or two, and maybe a nibble. I'll probably go by my (female)self, too--and don't require alcohol for all meals. The booze helps with old friends, though. I know I'll be seeing some friends in Boystown (B'way and Sheffield), I'll be going to the Vic one night, so my wandering territory is quite large.

    Any and all suggestions welcome!

    Thanks,

    Julia

Lakeview, too - I think S. of Diversey is Lincoln Park, N. of it is Lakeview.

You're close there to Bar Pastoral as well as to BowTruss and Intelligentsia - depending on if you want to drink coffee or wine/beer.

    Bar Pastoral

Thank you! I've had sandwiches from Pastoral, but the timing has not worked out for the drinks.

Is there any word on obnoxious levels for say Burwood Tap? I'd love a place that's red or brown line convenient (Fullerton or Diversey stops) and easy to walk into.

    See this thread:

Lincoln Park - lots of options but need suggestions and this post in particular. Loads of great options there.

Hope you enjoy your visit! :)

Some other decent eats/drinks around where you'll be: Peasantry (2723 Clark) and Dry Hop Brewers (3155 Broadway). Of the two, I prefer Peasantry . . . Dry Hop can get really loud. But both are very casual. In Boys Town, Wood is pretty good (3355 N. Halsted), with better food in my opinion than the aforementioned two.

You can get a great meal (and great cocktails) at Perennial Virant, though it's a bit more south (1800 North Lincoln). And Eleven City Diner is now open at Clark/Belden, in the little shopping area where Tower Records used to be.

From Clark and Diversey, you really have three directions to walk - North (lakeview), South (lincoln Parl), West.

There's not much within walking distance west. Next Door cafe has good coffee.
    South:
-DOC Wine bar is 2 blocks south of you. Not amazing but not bad for the area.
    - For snacks/food, Litos and 5411 Empanadas are good for takeout (no seating). Del Seoul is pretty good.

North: You have all of clark and broadway nearby.
    - Intelligentsia and Bowtruss are excellent for coffee.
    - La Creperie is decent.

The Clark bus takes you to Andersonville and the Diversey bus takes you to Logan Square. Brown Line is a few blocks west of you so the entire city is at your disposal given that nearby options aren't that great.

For sheer bombast you could try Kuma's Too @ 666 W. Diversey.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Half Shell, which is a few doors west of that intersection and a perfect place to hang out.

Two other Lincoln Park places to consider are Barn & Company where our own G Wiv is the pitmaster. The smofried wings are excellent and Gary's always cooking up something unique and special besides all the BBQ standards on the menu. It's a great place to catch a game, drink some beer (or cocktails) and eat some BBQ.

My other recommendation is Chengdu Impression. While they have a big menu containing lots of standard dishes, it's the Szechuan items that really shine.
