Mr. Pie and I want to take my parents out for their 40th birthday. I suggested some places (White Chocolate Grill, Rosebud, Cooper's Hawk) but mom says they all sound too expensive. Chinese is out. Italian, American, Indian is okay. Mom suggested Olive Garden but I'd like to do better than that. She also suggested a location between Irving Park and Downers Grove, so neither of us have to drive far. Is there a restaurant open around lunchtime that fits the bill? I have a feeling Olive Garden is going to be the place but I'd like to try giving an option.

    Thanks!

I think Sabatinos would be an obvious choice if Olive Garden is the alternative.

But I'll suggest something a little further west. There's a great diner on Irving Park in Wood Dale called Christy's. They have a very extensive menu, yet everything I've had there has been very good. I'd especially recommend the Friday fish fry. It's not frozen patties.
