Almost 300 mustards from 7 countries including Japan, and 27 U.S. states, were sent to the National Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin for entry into the annual World-Wide Mustard Competition. Details on the WWMC can be found at http://mustardmuseum.com/world-wide-mus ... mpetition/. It takes several sessions and many panels of judges to find the winning mustards with all judging occurring under the direction of Mustard Museum Founder and Curator Barry Levenson.

Both the first round and the Medal Round of judging have recently taken place here at the National Mustard Museum, on March 23rd and 30th. Mustard entries were judged within their respective categories. Once those scores are tallied, the 16 gold medal first place winning mustards of each flavor category will advance to the Grand Champion round where you as judges will rank them against each other to determine the 2014 overall top mustard. Examples of categories are Honey, Dijon, Spirit, Classic Yellow, Hot Pepper, and Exotic mustards, as well as mustard-based Dressings and BBQ Sauces. The purpose is to find the best of the best of 2014.

Chicago area food industry professionals, food writers and mustard-loving foodies are invited to help determine
2014 Grand Champion Mustard. Please join us on Thursday, April 10thth, any time between 2:00pm and 5:00pm at

Special thanks to the esteemed Kendall College Events Department for hosting this world food event. We look forward to your participation.

    NATIONAL MUSTARD MUSEUM
Join us at the National Mustard Museum in Middleton for our "Salute to the Winners" Open House, this weekend (May 3-4). We will have all the medal-winning mustards from this year's World-Wide Mustard Competition for tasting and many will be available for purchase.

You can also buy some of the medal winning mustards on line. Unfortunately, we can't get our hands on all of the winning mustards for sale. Some are foreign mustards that do not have distribution in the United States. To the person who claimed that only mustards that we can sell get considered for medals -- POUPON U! Some of the winning mustards -- especially the four Swedish mustards that earned medals -- are so delicious that we know they would do very well here in the States. You can also buy some of the winning mustards in your local supermarket.

We are also working to bring in some of the new small-scale specialty mustards, too. For example, we now have the Gold Medal Grainy Mustard, Best Boy Deli (BOY100), along with its two mustard siblings Best Boy Bourbon (BOY120) and Best Boy Sriracha (BOY140), available singly and also as a tasting trio, the Best Boy Sampler (BOY333). Highly recommended.

The Curator notes: "Where have these guys been? All three of these Best Boy mustards are super high quality. I'm so glad we found them..."
