At its most basic level, it's a deli. But not every deli has its specialty breads custom-made by Evanston's award-winning Bennison's Bakery. Or are inspired, at least in part, by the famed Zingerman's Deli in Ann Arbor, MI. Although, maybe, it's really a pub, with good beer and wine lists, plus cocktails. Perhaps it's a fancy food shop; there are select gourmet olive oils, imported cheeses, honeys and jellies, hand-made potato chips and specialty condiments for sale.
The main criticism of Bat 17 is that prices might be a bit on the high side.
Who knows what it is, really? Doesn't matter. It'll be an interesting place for the Evanston Lunch Group™ to explore.
