The first annual Chicago Kosher BBQ Competition and Festival (cRc supervision) will take place on Sunday, June 1, 2014. This competition is for both barbecue enthusiasts as well as casual backyard grillers.

With an anticipated 15-20 BBQ teams competing, trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in the following categories: Best Brisket, Best Ribs, Best Chicken, Best Beans, Most Original Team Name, Best Booth Decoration and Grand Champion. Watch our very own Jeff Shapiro as he judges the best BBQ of the day!

In addition to the BBQ competition, events will range from pickle and hot dog-eating contests, to an array of live entertainment and a kids play zone filled with inflatables, face painters and more. It’s fun, food and activity for the whole family!

This event is open to the general public. A $3 donation for entry is suggested with the proceeds going to two charities: MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger and the Lakeview Food Pantry.

I went - it was great Milt's sold food - if you knew a team or just had a friendly that would slip you some of their entries - the coolest thing was was the grill merry go round - http://imgur.com/QeujTqG

Were those the "smokers" that they supplied to the teams?

No - those were being used by Milt's to cook the food that they sold - each team got their own Weber 22.5 Bullet and 22.5 Grill to use -

When I read the rules, they said that they were going to supply brand new smokers for the event so they could be sure they were Kosher (and take them back after the contest to keep under lock and key for next year). The details of what kind of equipment would be supplied were vague and I was very curious about that.
