The pomegranate raspberry frozen yogurt from Cocomero in Skokie. Half of that with half dark chocolate truffle, fresh raspberries, blackberries and sprinkles...a fine way to spend time in the sun on a Spring afternoon!

Silver dollar pajeon with gochujang mayo.
Somebody made these for a party, and I think the small size helped keep the seafood from getting rubbery. These were light, with crunchy veg and silky seafood. The spicy mayo worked great as a doing sauce. I definitely am staging this idea.

While in Denver, I was talking with the owner of a wonderful shop (Cry Baby Ranch) and the owner suggested I go to Euclid Hall for lunch so I did. They've been mentioned in threads looking for Denver rec's and deserve the notice. I had a special Summer Salad that was composed of wonderfully grilled shrimp, shishitos and cubes of watermelon in a lime mint vinaigrette with mustard seed caviar ... it was one of the best summery dishes I've ever tasted - each flavor fresh and clear, the slight heat of the shishitos balanced so well by the watermelon and the dressing so flavorful yet so light. I would happily have this each day of summer!

The Horchata malt at Original Scoops on 31st. Delicious and just the right thickness. They have chocolate- and bacon- dipped waffle cones, so I think they'll be getting a lot of my business.

Roasted carrot salad with cured smelts, financier, grilled oranges, coriander and carrot slaw at Table, Donkey and Stick. Really outstanding. If you love carrots. Which I do. Tacos al pastor and carne asada from La Chaparrita #1. Guy behind the grill sent us out some complimentary Tepache and some of his Suadero (minced steak, I think). Man, someone seriously needs to get them a few more locations. With the "#1" at the end, I was hoping there were others scattered about.

With that and cheap El Milagro chips right there, I think I found a place to hit once a month. Now I just have to find who has the best street on 26th...

That time of year...all from my garden except the crumbled bleu (not sure which one--something good from Whole Foods), olive oil, good red wine vinegar, Maldon salt and pepper. I used red leaf, romaine , lily and speckled Bibb lettuces, arugula, sorrel, oregano & thyme, purple basil, celery and French Breakfast, Icicle and Easter egg radishes.

Salted caramel macaron from Vanille (French Market location.) A most excellent bite. I needed it because my sandwich (the Hen House) from Saigon Sisters was not most excellent.

I went to one of my favorite local restaurants, Smoked on Rose last Sunday. I ordered the hickory Smoked Pulled Pork entrée with the beans. This has been best thing I have eaten in the last 3 months. The pork was so tender that it shredded. It was exceptional. Then I had the honey puffs for dessert which were light and subtly sweet with honey drizzled over them.

Mais pizza at Forno Rosso Pizzeria Napoletana, 3719 N Harlem Ave, Chicago, IL 60634.

A truly inspired and unique version of their thin, Naples-style authentic pizzas. Roasted corn on the cob paired with creamy cheese and prosciutto produced a silky, creamy, rich white pizza that had us wanting to come back very soon for another. Cute outdoor patio (dog friendly), friendly service, amazing limoncello dessert added to the fun.

That's awesome, I just spent some time in Hungary this last August and had some delicious Langos. I'll have to check this out.

I had a terrific dinner tonight at Cocello, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention the egg yolk raviolo. It was phenomenal -- easily the best I've had in Chicago -- and the best thing I've eaten in quite a while. It was so good I almost forgot about Dillman's . . . well, maybe just for a few minutes.

Last week I was at the farmer's market and spotted a few peaches and blueberries. I made this cobbler for last Sunday's dessert exchange and again last night when friends were coming over before a movie. We didn't bother seeing the movie and just continued to eat.

ESCALIVADA CON ANCHOAS at Black Bull Tapas http://www.blackbullchicago.com/

Smokey Smokey Smokey roasted eggplant, caramelized onion, a touch of soft goat cheese, just a bit of piquillo peppers, finish with the salty anchovy, on a thin toast.

    WOW

on a side note, I did some brief searching, is there a thread on Black Bull?
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

Smoked pork tenderloin at P&E Mullins LOCAL in New Buffalo. A small smoldering autumn leaf pile of joy on the palate, truly amazing stuff, not overlean, porky, and succulent. One of the only Midwestern challengers to Russ Kendall's in Knife River in my experience. A sillily good and reasonably priced place.

There is a char grilled chicken restaurant ..a dive...El Pollo Vagabundo... On Grand Avenue in Northlake. It is in an area where there are a lot of cheap apartments and it is predominantly Mexican. The strip mall has a store that sells quincineria dresses. I noticed that a friend of mine who has a restaurant had listed this restaurant as a Like..which made me curious...He has very good taste so I was a little surprised, given that the place looks like a dump.

I went this weekend and I was shocked. The food was exceptional..maybe the best Mexican food I have had in the Chicagoland area. They have a salsa bar..and there is a woman who makes homemade tortillas all day. The place is not the most attractive...basically feels like you are eating in someones storeroom...there are boxes lined up everywhere. The place is clean ...it is just small and had a lot of stuff.

I had the steak quesadilla and the guacamole. Both were the best I ever had. I went back during the week around lunchtime..and there was a line going out the door into the parking lot.. There are only like 2-4 people working there... husband and wife and some other relative I think... It seems they are getting popular. People didn't mine waiting 20 minutes for their food.

This is now my favorite Mexican restaurant. If you don't mind Spartan surroundings.then this place is for you.
