Lately, my Sunday brunch routine has been walking over to a neighborhood church, Transfiguration of our Lord, to see what the Latina grandmothers have cooked up for this week's fundraiser. They set up the outdoor griddle and other food in the very pleasant sideyard outside the church. The menu changes every week. So far, I've had flautas, tacos, tostadas and sopas, all spot on satisfying. Food can be eaten at the yard's picnic benches (and sometimes the game is on, or there's music) or taken as carryout. Hope you can join me!
Every Sunday, summer 2014
Food starts around noon, and is mostly gone by 1 p.m.

"To get long" meant to make do, to make well of whatever we had; it was about having a long view, which was endurance, and a long heart, which was hope.
