Strange that the topic is locked after the OP....I'm assuming there will be many questions.

Is this something that is (essentially) a family friendly event?

Well, it's an Announcement, not a Thread which, is why disucssion isn't possible. But it was never locked, per se.

I'm was really excited when I read the posting about the trip to Peru. I'm wondering who else wants to go and if anyone would be interested in sharing a room. I would be traveling by myself.

In terms of family-friendly, it depends on the age of the children. I would recommend this trip for families with children in their mid to late teens.

I think that this is a very interesting idea, but I wonder about the short lead time (early September 2014). If the tour were to be in 2015, I might be interested. If there are not enough takers, you might consider pushing it back a year.

Note, too, that this tour conflicts with the Picnic.

Gary, the tour is timed with Mistura and the exact dates for Mistura were announced relatively recently.

I hope that the tour fills up, but if it doesn't it may be because of the question of lead time. Tour companies are now advertising their tours for 2015, and it takes some time to make a decision. Speaking for myself and my wife, we have all our travel planned for 2014 already, but if we knew now about a tour next year we would seriously consider it. Typically we place deposits about 4-6 months in advance. Presumably Mistura occurs at a fairly similar time each year, no? (it seemed to be at the same time in 2013. Even if it runs in 2014, perhaps the tour company would want it to be an annual tour. There is a market for culinary tours.

I won't be able to go myself, but I would certainly hope the Peru trip includes a visit to Mr. Weenie!

It would definitely include a trip to Mr. Weenie if we were going to Peru, Indiana! Alas, we are going to Peru, as in the country. The good news is that there will be other world class treats to partake of!

Totally agree with the comments about 2015. That is definitely on our radar for further discussion if we don't get enough participants for the 2014 tour.

Or perhaps plans for a 2015 trip could be started right after the 2014 trip goers return.

Now that we are in August, I am wondering what is happening with the tour. When I click on the link on the main thread, I get the notice, "The content you are looking for is not availible" [sic]. I think the tour is an excellent idea, and just wonder if, given the short lead-time, it is still planned, either for 2014 or 2015 or does the dead link indicate something.

Quite possible. Will you be on the trip, David. That would be what is termed a lagniappe.

I was told that the LTH trip is not happening. However, my wife and I found a similar tour run by Explorations, Inc. of Bonita Springs, Florida. A five day tour with a lot of food related events, including a visit to Mistura 2015 (September 5-9). (There is also an extension to Machu Picchu). We would have enjoyed an LTH tour, but this one seems well-planned, and perhaps there will be several LTHers present.
