    Montrose Beach semimonthly potluck, BBQ, 2014 #4 - Sunday - July 13th, 2014 - "STREET FOOD"

    montrose-bbQ4.jpg

Things you'd like to eat on the street. Tacos, hot dogs, Chinese dumplings, kebabs, Thai sausage, you name it!

Previously a couple people got lost trying to find the spot. It is just north of montrose beach, but that doesn't mean it's on montrose. It is actually just a little north of Lawrence Ave. Please look at the map and answers to other questions here:
    FAQ AND SCHEDULE.

RSVP below, and please let me know what you plan to bring. You can also RSVP, invite friends, and join the conversation over at the Facebook Invite page

For the details, like where, when, what to bring, etc, please see:

I am waffling between either doing an Al Pastor trompo (layered with Lamb fat) or something Chinese. I guess it depends on how many people RSVP. If we get enough people, we could recreate "Taqueria El Teache", the taco stand we did at the last LTH picnic. Though I dont' want to force people into mexican, I would really love to have a wide array of various street foods.

Maybe we should switch it up to a schwarma-kebab stand? Same mechanism, lamb/beef instead of pork, different sides...

Looking very forward to seeing everyone. Will be bringing grilled banana splits, so if grill space is available, I would love to have a few minutes of it.

This summer is turning into a total washout for me. Won't be able to attend, yet again. :(

This is turning out to be a BIG one, at least 20 people that i know of so far. So if you know what you're bringing, please post what you plan to bring here and/or on the facebook page! We already had a potential double up on dish and we want to avoid that.

    Thanks!

I'm planning a vertical spit of something meat that is NOT al pastor. Maybe Tacos Arabes or Doner Kebab.

I will do appropriate street condiments/accompaniments for whatever nationality of cuisine that Laikom picks for his spit.

I'm doing Macanese egg tarts, inspired by my insatiable desire to stuff my face with them after Fat Rice. Though not "street food" in a technical historical-traditional-whatever sense, people can and do eat egg tarts while walking down the street. If they turn out well, I don't think anyone will complain.

If that is the case, I suppose I'll just pick. Doner Kebab!

How did we forget about Zapiekanka?? If nobody steps to the plate on this one, Jen and I are going to throw some together. If anyone still needs an idea, feel free to steal this one.

I'm sorry, but I can't make this one either, sigh. Take lots of pics and post.

Hoping Laikom will post the good shots but here are a couple of the Doner Kebab spit and the nifty little toaster oven he configured. Crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned lamb atop toasted lavash with homegrown cucumber, tomato and onion salad, yogurt and cucumber sauce, spicy grilled tomato Iskender sauce, blistered shishitos...not bad for a PicniQue!
