I love some of the Ramadan speciality items around town - have already made 3 or 4 trips this month for Katayif (both the Walnut and the Cheese kind from Jaffer Sweets), a Ramadan-only special dessert (and very very good). And a couple of trips to Hyderabad House for the Ramadan-daily-Haleem (went 4 times, they were sold out the first 2 times!) - this is usually a Friday-only dish for HH.

Just read an article tonight, however, about the foodies in Cairo doing a Mango-Konafa taste-off this Ramadan!

This sounded amazing, and I was wondering if anyone had seen or heard of anything like this being served in *any* Chicagoland establishment? I like Konafa a fair bit, and consider the best Mangoes - ie the Alphonso - to be the single greatest fruit God put on this green earth, so the combination sounds out of this world in theory! (Wouldnt half mind trying a Nutella Katayif either...but Iam not sure Id go for a Red Velvet Konafa, really - those Cairo-ites are crazy :-)

I asked a friend of mine who's mother makes konafa/knafeh, he had never heard of mango version, perhaps because he grew up in Lebanon. He did agree it sounded fantastic yet did not have any idea about locations that may have it in Chicago.

The photos in the article look sublime, I'm on the quest now to find.
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.
