    Those are gorgeous.

I am humbly reminded of my teachings in "merchandising" as a padawan major art supply store employee in the early-90's.

I'm out of the loop on this one; the one time I ventured into a Hooters(un-ironically) the nice-enough waitresses soon realized I and my company were there for the "food" and not for the show...and...how hard up are socially-controlled str8-men that flaccid thighs coated in bronzed fabric always already get em to the hootin' an' a hollerin' stage? Pretty damn hard up.

What really pops my top is the new-to-me advertising of Hooters branded "family-friendly": happy-go-lucky dad and his long-suffering wifey in tow plus 1.5 kids enjoying aforementioned chrome leggings and buffalo things...

    wtf?

Yeah, simple food is my "strategy" for eating at RL too. My extended family loves the place, and we get invited there about once every 2-3 months by them.

I always get some sort of boiled shrimp, a salad and the biscuits. Nothing to write home about, but also nothing that corporate America can top with an in-house high fructose corn syrup sauce or gloppy cheese.

Funny thing, my hubby and I went to a wedding in Quincy IL two summers ago and, according to their Chamber of Commerce's guide, one of the most frequently asked questions to the Chamber is "When will Quincy be getting a Red Lobster?". The article then detailed what Darden looks for in terms of population when selecting a new location and explained why Quincy won't be seeing a giant red crustacean decorating its main highway any time soon.

One man's generic seafood outlet is clearly another's ultimate culinary nirvana. :)

And those shorts are orange and exactly reminiscent of high school gym uniforms. But, then again, I'm not the target audience.

As for the comic strips, they are great and accurately capture any mundane crap job. The one about rolling silverware distinctly reminds me of one of the many sh*t jobs I had in high school and college, one of which was as a hostess at a restaurant which included rolling those silverware wads. I actually worked another sh*t job in the shipping department of a printing company with my slacker, younger brother where we had to box items for shipment. The only redeeming aspect of that job was that my brother would occasionally be subversive and place odd items in the shipment boxes, like a half-eaten pack of gum, or his leftover McDonald's bag, just to make the recipient think "hmmm. . . " As evil as that sounds, sometimes that's what it took to get through the day with your dignity and brains intact . . . :)

I'm one that actually likes RL. I stayed away from there for a long time. I had visions of the Sizzlers of lobster. I had never seen a lobster tail with gristle, but I was prepared to the first time I went. I also expected it to priced that way. I was shocked to see the price about the same as I'd expect anywhere else. But it was also just as good as I'd expect for the price.

I'd never suggest it as a night out. But if someone insisted on getting me one of those insipid gift cards, I'd be OK with one from RL.

Hi- This was on Yahoo news yesterday. Apparently the new owners of Red Lobster are doing fancier plating while charging more money in order to make the restaurant appear to be more upscale. Here is a link to the article.

I am not sure if they will succeed. Any thoughts? THanks, Nancy

I don't care what they do as long as they don't touch the biscuits.

I saw a Red Lobster biscuit mix at Walmart a few months ago. I brought it home for a try, it was pretty good. I met someone who replicates commercial recipes, including those biscuits. I swear they were ready to beeline to Walmart to find that mix. I tried to locate it recently with no luck, though I didn't ask either.

A quick Google search and there are bunch of clone recipes for the RL Biscuits. Like this site for example:

They're available at Sam's Club. The mix is $6 and it makes 30 biscuits.

Walmart has an online product locator for the 11 oz box

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Red-Lobster-C ... z/32183361

Its showing availability in the city, so its probably worth plugging in your zip code & seeing which stores near you come up.
