When I was in Taiwan in the pre-public-internet days, there was an ad on TV and on the side of busses, in which bespectacled researchers in lab coats were spreading chocolate frosting on peaches, then wiping them with assorted brands of toilet tissue to demonstrate the tensile strength of the various makes of TP. Needless to say, the ads were unnecessarily grotesque. Within a few days, public uproar had the very suggestive ads removed. Unfortunately, being in the pre-twitter era, there seems to be no remaining record of the ingenious campaign. The first time I saw one of those commercials on TV, I almost choked to death on the Tai Wan Pi Jyou (beer) I was drinking. Since I was unable to share my Taiwanese TV fixation with my fellow American travelers, I stand alone as the sole English speaking witness to these brilliant contributions to the height of grotesqueness in advertising.
