If you can get it, dry ice is the answer.

    Hi,

Meijer's grocery stores have dried ice near the front door.

So how do you handle dry ice? I think I am still afraid of it. Funny, since I got over my fear of lye by curing the olives with it.

I probably don't know all the details but don't handle it with bare hands and don't ingest it. I just put it in a cooler, using gloves, and that works fine.

Keep it well insulated until you add it to the cooler with the ice cream. For example, wrap it in an old blanket, or several layers of beaten-up corrugated cardboard.

When I brought ice cream to the picnic last year, Swing Bossa picked up a 10 pound block of dry ice that morning. It was wrapped in several layers of plastic and we placed it on top of the ice cream in a cheap Styrofoam cooler. I was careful not to touch it with my bare hands and avoided standing over the open cooler for too long. Worked great and kept the ice cream frozen throughout the picnic.

Really looking forward to this -- one of my favorite events of the year. I'll be there +2; possibly +3. Still not sure what I'll bring but it'll likely be an adult beverage and some sort of main course-type item.

    Thanks!

Please put me down for one. I am as yet unsure what I will bring. But that cheese or salami element sounds plausible.
Due to another society {oops} having a function here (which I am prohibited from mentioning), I can inform people that it is possible to take public transit here.
(People get on transit vehicles with strollers lots of times. I don't see a problem with you having a folding lawn chair.)
You're going to wind up on the route #92 Foster bus. The stop will be announced as 4635 W. Foster. If you are going eastbound (from Jefferson Park), it is the stop after Cicero. If you are going westbound, it is the stop after Kilbourn. You may have to rummage around a little, but you should find the pedestrian entrance to the preserve. Begin walking north. You won't encounter the Edens Expressway. It'll be to the west and a little north. That first photo shows the angle you'll discover.

Put me down for one. I may attempt deep fried green beans (but not on a stick.) The only thing that concerns me is the used oil. If it cools sufficiently, I can put back in the container and take it home, if not, how do I discard it?

Do you need any paper goods?

Right now we're leaning away from doing a dutch oven demo (we might change our minds).
If that's the case, I may make a big bowl of Kısır, a turkish bulgur salad that was one of the tastiest things I ate in London that translates well to picnic.

    Hi,

    Picnic spreadsheet has been updated.

I am bringing a bag of corn. I hope some of the grill masters will help with cooking. I plan to make a Burmese Ginger Salad, which I tried recently in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I just keep thinking it was one of the more brilliant tastes this year.

If you are bringing guests, when you know who it will be please send a PM with their names for nametags.

    Regards,

Sounds like a fun time. Please put me down as an attendee, +2. I will bring a Weber charcoal grill, and attempt to make a homemade version of Khan's Chicken Bhoti. The LTHforum post about Chicken Bhoti dish was my gateway to all of Devon avenue, and the dish itself did not disappoint. Upon tasting it for the first time with my friend:

Me: How do they get the chicken so charred and yet so juicy?
Friend (atheist): Dude, it's because Allah is the one true god.

It's a high standard to live up to but I'll give it my best shot. I will happily share grill space as I don't think the Bhoti will take that long to cook.

    Thanks
