    Hi,

I need to find a source of either unpasteruerized or pasteruerized (but not ultrapasteurized) goat milk, so I can make goat ricotta. Can anyone please point me to a source. Whole foods and Jewel only sell ultrapasteurized.

    Thanks

    Hi,

You will need to locate a goat herder directly. Things may have changed, but it has been allowed to buy unpasteurized milk direct from the farm.

You may to contact your county's farm bureau (likely not in Cook County) to learn who is raising goats in this area.

No goat milk listed, but they may be able to direct you to a local source.

You might want to try Trader Joe's. I know they carry goat milk, but I don't know if it's pasteurized or ultra pasteurized. However, TJ's is a semi-secret source for *pasteurized* heavy cream, which you mostly find in the ultrapasteurized version, so there's a shot that they might carry something similar with goat milk.

Otherwise, it might not hurt to give Cassie at Green Grocer a call.

I'm looking for a source of non-ultrapasteurized goat's milk for home cheesemaking. Trade Joe's and Whole Foods only stock the ultrapasteurized variety. Does anyone know of a local source that does not require me subscribing to a farm Co-Op?

I'm not certain, could definitely be wrong. But I bought goat's milk from Harvestime for making cheese. I do recall looking for the non-ultra pasteurized type, and ended up finding something there. No guarantees, but it's worth a call to the store to ask. Please report back!
