The annual Iliinois Mycological Association show at the Chicago Botanic Garden will take place on Sunday, 7
September, between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., in the Fairchild Room of the CBG’s Regenstein Center. The Garden is located at 1000 Lake Cook Rd""Glencoe, IL 60022; (847) 835-5440. The Illinois Mycological Association celebrates the richness of fall mushrooms in Illinois with an exhibit of 50 to 100 varieties of mushroom foraged from area forests.
Mycology is the study of fungi and their use to humans as a source for medicine and food, as well as their
dangers, such as poisoning or infection, and their benefits to natural ecosystems. Members of
the IMA provide information and answer questions regarding mushrooms and fungi. A children’s education area is available, and mushroom art, books, and t-shirts will be for sale.
Meet the Mycologists: Tom Volk, Joe McFarland, Steve Leavitt and Brian Manske will identify
specimens and answer visitors’ questions. They will give three lectures during the afternoon.
As usual, there will be displays of mushroom-related crafts, medical uses, and even
jewelry. Please plan to attend
