If you think to a Serb, a side dish with their roasted pork is grilled sausage, you'd be right, but it does not mean that the cuisine is without its vegetables. In fact, as much as cevacapi and bread is to the diet is also roasted peppers. Which is why I wanted to organize a visit to Dunav at the peak of pepper season (as I really love
peppers). So, I've rounded up the Oak Park Boy's Eating Club to come eat Serbian Food on
September 8 at 7 PM at Dunav in Brookfield.Brookfield, some of you might think Brookfield is simply a bastion of old time Bohemian food, but no, Brookfield also has a mini, thriving (so I'm told), Serbian community, with a few Serbian places. I've not made enough effort to examine the full range of Serbian places in Brookfield, but I did very much like Dunav on my visit. It's all you could want in a Serbian place: tons of grilled meats, cheese spread, liquor, shopska salad, and roasted peppers.
Let me know if you'll be joining.
