Thanx, Ed. Just ordered one. Now I won't have to try sous vide cooking in a regular zip-lock bag.

Have used a Trilla machine for years, and love it. I have not had good luck with making my own bags from a long roll, but save a ton of stuff in wide mouth canning jars, and in bags from Minards. They are about half to 1/3 the Trilla price, and work great.

Someone mentioned thawing frozen meals, and reheating... Try putting the frozen bag in a pot, filled with cold water, and apply heat. When the water starts to simmer, 180 or so, the frozen meal is also 180 or so. When you pack the food before you freeze it, try to make the bags about an inch thick. I have even done pizza this way, and it is better than the microwave.

That coupon code no longer works. However, the code:

    SEALF40

appears to be working, and gives you 40% off through 12/31. Time to edit my Christmas list...

Any updated thoughts on a good vacuum sealer?

We love our Food Saver (purchased at Costco about 2 years ago -- replacing one we'd worn out). Most frequent uses are for cheese and for cuts of meat to go into the freezer. In our small household, I don't know how we'd get along without it.

Can't find the model number, but based on their website I'm pretty sure it's the V3880. Looks like they've introduced a couple of new models since we got this one, so it might be worth checking out what improvements they've made. My only complaint about this one is the size (it's very tall and takes up a lot of space in the cabinet), so if they've minimized the footprint that would be welcome tweak.

One thing they added on the one we have is the ability to vacuum soft/delicate items without crushing them. I've sealed soft cheeses, potato chip bags, etc. without any issue.

Going to give this a whirl. I've been practicing my low and slow on the ugly drum smoker a lot and want to freeze my output to give to friends.

Foodsaver has this for 59 bucks with free shipping right now:

Got the product on Saturday and have been busy sealing everything I can get my hands on!

I've walked into Kmart and Sears and they don't have any Foodsaver supplies in their stores.

Is there any places in town that carries them on their shelves?

Hi- I just checked on slick deals, and foodsaver.com, has a sale on right now on their bags, and if you spend over $25 you get free shipping, and you get 10% off your order if you sign up for their email. Kohl's is supposed to have the bags right now too, and you should check and see how much they are on Amazon right now. With Amazon, unless you are a Prime member though, you have to spend $35 to get free shipping. Costco might have the bags too. Apparently foodsaver.com usually has the best sales according to slick deals. Here is the link to their latest sale.

    Hope this helps, Nancy

Bed Bath & Beyond carries a few different kinds of Foodsaver bags.

Be sure to use on of their ubiquitous $5 or 20% discount coupons.

One of the nice little surprises for me has been the utility of the FoodSaver round canisters. Our household of 2 uses them quite a bit; they've paid for themselves in the amount of salad greens we've been able to eat before they turn slimy & brown. Also use them for infrequently cooked grains/cereals.

The Ball jar adapter works really well too if you don't need a large jar.

Target used to have a large selection of Foodsaver bags on the shelves. We are an hour from the nearest store, so we don't shop there very often, but I remember seeing them.

As was said, sign up on the Foodsaver website, they will send you emails about sales. This is the best you will do, if it was possible to get them cheaper, my wife would know about it. She buys enough to get the free shipping, when the price is right.

She was just complaining the other day, that as soon as you order, they send out a better offer. It's not a fluke, it happens everytime. She has tried canceling the order and getting the better deal, but they won't do it. They told her the only way to cancel is to refuse the shipment. So now, she'll make a small order, wait for the better deal email, order a large amount at the better price, and then refuse the first shipment.

It sounds like a stupid way to do business, but they probably don't run into many people, willing to go to the trouble to save a buck, as she does.

Anyhow, the first sale price you get from them is a better deal than you'll find anyplace, but the second offer is way better.

    YMMV,

    Tim
