Off the record intel has told me that it's supposed to be some sort of greek restaurant. Same intel has also told me that there's some movement on the old Rosebud spot across the street.

Thanks. Interesting. Nice to hear that something might happen with that space.

One of our Redditors from http://reddit.com/r/greatNWside went and had this to say just now, FWIW:

"Stopped in today. Deco is beautiful - thrift/vintage. Coffee very good and very reasonably priced. I also grabbed cookies from Sicilia Bakery and a Fannie Schmoes scone. They have lunch options as well but haven't tried them yet. I sat in the sun in a pretty couch and enjoyed my coffee. Owners are friendly and good people. So glad they invest so much of themselves in our neighborhood!"

Really hope this song is playing nonstop at the new Perkolator Coffeehouse. If so, I'm making the trek there.

Viccino's in Highland Park has papered windows and a 'for lease' sign in the window.

Bareburger, which opened its first location in Queens about five years ago, is coming to Lincoln Square according to our alderman, but exactly when and where I don't know yet (but not in the space next to Paciugo, although I understand some type of restaurant will be filling that space, with an announcement coming this week). Supposedly they have a pretty good burger, but I've never tried it. They have 20 or so locations with apparently more on the way.

Since I adore the burgers, beer and staff at Bad Apple, I don't see this as something we need in Lincoln Square, but so be it. I'll update when I get more info on opening date and location.

Wow, the same Umami from LA? They've expanded a lot since I left LA. Ate at the Oakland branch before moving out here, and not quite at the level it used to be, but still one of the top burgers.

This is an odd one. The place that will be replacing Rolland's, at Clark just south of Howard, was granted a late-night liquor license. I mean, really, REALLY late night:

(Co-owner Devon) Kelly said the bar would be open until 4 a.m. Sundays-Fridays and until 5 a.m. on Saturdays in hopes of attracting Loyola and Northwestern students.

What bar in the city can you belly up to at 5am for alcohol? There's a 2:30am license and a 4:30 license for bars, I thought?

For retail in all my 35 years of being legal to buy booze I've never tried to buy package goods at 5:00AM. 7AM, yes, but not 5AM.

The odd thing is that that this isn't a grandfathered liquor license from the previous ownership. Rolland's and Hop Haus's hours were:

    Rolland's Sports Restaurant
    7545 North Clark Street
    Chicago, IL 60626
    (773) 262-3783

    Hours:

    Friday 11:30 am - 2 am
    Saturday 10 am - 2 am
    Sunday 10 am - 12 am

My guess is that last call is at 4:30 am, then they give anyone who is left 30 minutes to finish their drinks and to try and find someone to go home with them. I do NOT plan on testing this hypothesis.

I've seen places, if they know you, let you order 4 rounds, pay for them, then let you sit at the bar for two hours with the doors locked. they just can't ring the register or tend to your drinks or ice.

Quoting from the city's website for classes of liquor licenses:

City of Chicago website wrote:Late Hour License (Secondary)

Businesses wishing to remain open beyond the legal closing time of 2:00 a.m. may obtain a Late Hour Liquor License. This license is required for the additional privilege to remain open and permit the sale of alcoholic liquor until 4:00 a.m., Monday-Saturday, and until 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. Businesses holding a Tavern, Packaged Goods, or Consumption on Premises-Incidental Activity license are permitted to apply for a late hour license.

In other news from the same specific neighborhood, albeit on the Evanston side of the street, Leonie's Delice Bakery on Howard at Clyde appears to have closed. Phone is disconnected, and a big "For Lease" sign is up in the window; roadwork on that section of Howard made further scrutiny impossible today. They don't have a website, but the facebook page is still up, though the most recent user post is from February, and the last update from the ownership was made in 2012 (the year it opened).

There's over 100 bars/clubs/etc in Chicago that stay open until at least 4am one night per week. The rule is that you can stay until 5, though last call is obviously before (and same as for any 2am bar, it's never AT 2am, but before). DNA Info compiled a pretty nice list of the "open until at least 4am at least one night per week" places almost a year ago. It was last updated about a month ago too, so it's fairly up to date:
